Best block for 8800GTX?

Full block... EK or DD should be par for performance. Single gpu block w/ram sinks would preform better.

in all honesty at the moment...which ever you can get hold of at the moment

while we have a few EK one's left we are on a long backorder list with EK and Danger Den at the moment (blame the Americans for grabbing all the stock ;) ) so grab what you can, from who you can, while you can!!!!! And seeing as Alphacools new 8800 blocks have all had to go back because of a design fault there's won't be out anytime soon either....

I know with both EK and DD demand is outstripping supply at the moment hence the wait....and I'm pretty sure it's going to be similar for most retailers in the UK.

Well I ordered DD block yesterday and should be coming next tues. I just wanted to make sure I made the right choice.

I read that the EK is reversible so if I ever have SLI setup it can cool 2 GPUs simultaneously which sounds pretty cool.

But if you say single block is better I'm assuming the less heat the block deals with the better it performs...

Can you give me an example?

All I can find are full blocks by EK and DD...

Here's an example of a single block with heatsinks on the ram. Full GPU blocks are a bit more restrictive than single blocks, plus they are cooling the ram as well hence why single blocks offer slightly better cooling of the GPU core. You can't go wrong with the EK though.

Is the MCW60 the only single block that is out?

I'm not feeling the plastic barbs tbh.... (but i guess you can chng them)

So do you think I shud trade DD for EK?

If I get a single block what would I use to cool the ram? Fans?

I know of some other GPU blocks but give me a minute to check if they fit the 8800 series. BTW you need the 8800 hold-down plate for MCW60 (it's only $5).

Sorry, my brain was thinking DD but my fingers typed EK anyway! There isn't really that much performance difference between GPU blocks anyway.

Just use BGA heatsinks, preferably made from copper. GPU ram doesn't really get that hot, the airflow in your case should be sufficient.

ahaha i think youre right. i dont think i can be bothered to add all those ramsinks.... full block will surely pwn!!!!!

I'm using the MCW60 with G80 adaptor on mine. The ramsinks can be extremely fidly to fit, especially when you get thermal adhesive tape that isn't as sticky as it should be :(

im guessing ur using those swiftech copper ramsinks eh? if ur using them for the second time, all i do is get some cotton earswabs and dip it in alcohol and clean the surface and then press really hard on to the ram or mosfet and it works fine.

Try this trick...a bit tedious but it pays off. I lapped my ramsinks with 300->600->800->->1000->2000 grit to get them flat and somewhat polished. then I used ceramique with the tiniest dab of super glue at the corners or the ram sink. I pushed it onto a memory module waited about 5-8 seconds and viola! as if by magic they stick. Ram modules have faaaar better temps. My temps hovered on the 33-35c range before this mod and now they are no hotter than 25-26c!

I am getting 33-35c temps with an Apogee GT base with a MCW60 top with the G80 hold down....excellent performance....and Swiftech is considering making the block as a production model.
