Belkin setup

Hi all,

My friend installed vista the other day and bought a belkin router

He followed the instructions using the provided setup desk but the software crashes with it gets to the stage where it checks for an internet connection.

I've got it sitting here and can’t get it to get an internet connection with my login details (config using 192.168.2.1)

Is there something I am missing as I haven’t used a belkin before?

It's a Belkin Wireless G Router Model: F5D7230-4

I don`t know if this works with ADSL also, but alot of cases where peoples have had problems with routers, I`ve had them uninstall all the supplied software (manuf. stuff) and just simply plug the thing in and let windoze sort it out. This usually being XP of course.

Maybe Visa will do it too ?

No software installed

Tried plug and play and still no connection

Talking to support via e-mail but all they said was restore it to factory defaults. Think I'll take it back to PC world and get a NETGEAR DG834G like mine

Have you checked all the settings?

I have had to 'fix' someone's router before.

It had reset to defaults and the encapsulation was set to LLC-Mux instead of VC-Mux. Also the VP/VC was wrong, had to change it to the Uk settings of VP:0 VC:38.

I think it just set itself to American settings. Could be something as simple as that.

sorry if I'm being a bit dull and missing something here, but isn't that Belkin a Cable/DSL router, and therefore the wrong type for a BT ADSL phoneline connection?

Looks like adsl looking on here

Hmmm. Interesting. Most places describe it as a Cable/DSL router, including the pdf manual at Belkin UK, Link

Maybe Browney can tell us if it's got 5 x RJ45 or 4 x RJ45 + 1 x RJ11?

make sure its set to PPPoE and not PPPoA, otherwise you wont be able to connect to the internet

i had the same problem with my belkin

hmm confusing :(

But surely browney would know the difference between RJ45 & RJ11 :)

Altho you can plug RJ11 into a RJ45 port, so it is possible.
