Before I try to OC

I have a million questions I want to ask before I want to start overclocking my PC. Currently Im running an Air Cooled system (saving money for a water cooling system) and was wondering a few things, what the heck is CPU Tj, is something I should worry about or can I still count on what my BIOS says my temp is.

I have been reading all the guides posted in the forums and researching like crazy through google to find out as much as I can and I feel that below have really good temp readings but I want to make sure what would be safe overclocking to where it doesnt heat up my room on a hot day.

I have a few screen shoots that Ive taken this morning after running a few things to see what people have to say.

System:

Intel Q9300/Zalman CNPS9700 NT Arctic 5

evga 780i

8 gb OcZ SLI-Ready Memory

2x 8800 GTS 512 (G92)

Creative X-Fi 64mb

Corsair TX750w

Antec Nine Hundred w/4 120mm and 200mm exhaust

These shots were takin when the room was below 60F

This is using a test to max out 2 of my cores for 20 minutes

Just after I finished the test

and this is after 30 minutes of game play on S.T.A.L.K.E.R full resolution maxed settings

Can't read them lol... Looks like 80?? 80 sounds far too high..

** 50 anything under 60 load sounds fine to me..

the only 80 is see is 80f/27c for the motherboard, the processor at the time was running at 25c and the CPU1 TJ was at 49c

i have bigger shots but photobucket shrunk em :(

The TJ is the tjunction between each chip.. The Q9300 is 4 seperate cores meaning they all have to be joined..

25c is really low.. what program gave you that temp?

The Core temps look to me to be around 50c..

Core Temp is actually set to Delta to TJ Max Temp

The CPU Tj stuff is what I have been trying to figure out before I start raising the clock on this computer, I spent a lot of time putting this rig together.

I did not realize that the forums had their own option for uploading files.

Run two instances of Prime95 with the affinity set to core 0 and 1 on the first, and 2 and 3 on the second to simulate full load. ;) Then you'll get a good idea of what you're max temps are.

60c what? CPU Tj or the bio temp?

im still trying to figure out Prime95, i stressed each core and noticed that CPU Tj1 and 2 topped at 54c and CPU Tj3 and 4 were 49c

I overclocked my Q9300 by 20% today, running it at 3000 at 7.5x400 and the ram is running at 960

After stress testing the CPU and Memory with Sis Sandra and Prime95 and topped at 38c and my CPU TJ topped at 58c. All benchmarks passed on stability and played COD4 and Frontline hour each and only topped at CPU Tj 56c

So I am assuming that when Pat123 says 60 or below, im still safe

I swear with Intel quads you are safe as long as you are below 70oC?

But I wouldn't run any chip at that temp.. you are safe. ;)
