The latest addition to the OC3D Benchmark suite is BattleField : Hardline. We grab a couple of ASUS Matrix cards and see what kind of performance you can expect.

BattleField Hardline Performance Review AMD vs Nvidia

The game runs beautifully on Ultra on my 780 too even with 110% resolution scale on top of that

Did you run the 290X card with mantle API or were both run using DirectX?

Huge hint on the 1st page :p

I still love the fact that the 290X came out October 2013, The GTX 980 came out November 2014 and the 290X is beating it nicely.

I know it's an AMD title but it's good to see this :)

That's what optimization does for ya, taking older hardware and making them spank the new hardware:p

I know it was DX11 only but i am interested in Mantle. Maybe like a scaling benchmark between 295x2/290/280x etc.

^ +1 this... I actually had an 290X Vapor-X (blue one), but I guess it was faulty one, as all the other 970's I recieved from the same retailer all had the worst coil whine ever, but this Vapor-X was loud as hell...

So grabbed a 980 Strix from another retailer, some small coil whine while gaming, which is acceptable, but absolutely, dead ass silent on idle and some movie watching, web browsing etc... love it! :)

But still it's nice to see that the optimization is making quite a benefit on older cards :)

I think this has made my decision for me.

I've been looking for something to upgrade to from my 770 and as I play the BF games more than any other it's a no brainer.

Was thinking of getting a EVGA 970 as I think nVidia are by far the most elegant solution and was hoping to step-up to the 980ti if released within 90 days (has anyone had any experience with the EVGA step-up program in the UK?)

Thanks to TTL for another great review, other sites compare stock cards and with the stock 290x's cooler being so poor it was never a true reflection.

BTW, at current pricing you could get two 290x ROG Matrix's in CF for the price of one 980 ROG Matrix.

Cheers ;)
