Battlefield 3

EA CEO, John Riccitiello spoke today at the Ad Age Digital Conference in New York and confirmed that Battlefield 3 will launch in November of this year. Of course, Riccitiello once again brought up how they are going after the next Call of Duty and are aiming to "take that game down".

Additionally, Riccitiello stated they have a $100 million marketing budget for Battlefield 3.

Electronic Arts is setting the bar high for Battlefield 3.

Speaking during the Ad Age Digital Conference in New York City today, CEO John Riccitiello confirm it will launch Battlefield 3 in November of this year and said the publisher has rival Activision's Call of Duty series in its sights.

"This November, we're launching Battlefield 3. It's going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry," he said. "A game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down."

Riccitiello later compared this holiday's battle between the two games to the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry in baseball and said gamers can expect to see massive advertising campaigns for both titles.

"There will be a couple hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head. We think we have the better product," Riccitiello added.

EA Games president Frank Gibeau echoed similar comments during GDC last month when he told us: "Everybody loves a heavyweight fight, and that's what this is going to be. We're here to compete."

Battlefield 3 to 'Take Down' Call of Duty with Over $100 Million in Marketing

Battlefield 3 and the Frostbite engine looked quite impressive during the game's GDC debut, and publisher Electronic Arts has made it known for some time now that they won't stop fighting until they've taken back the shooter crown from rival Activision. Talking to a group of marketers at the Ad Age conference, EA boss John Ricitiello explained to the audience that his company is very serious about toppling Call of Duty this fall with the release of Battlefield 3.

After showing them a demo, he proclaimed, referring to Activision's Call of Duty, "This game is designed to take down that game." He categorized it as a "battle of the titans", a rivalry like Red Sox versus Yankees or Microsoft versus Google. Riccitiello also noted that there will be a "couple hundred million dollars of marketing going against these two products going head-to-head."

Ultimately, Riccitello declared, "We think we've got the better product."

Call of Duty is so firmly entrenched in the gaming community that it's definitely going to be challenge for EA. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter told us last month that Battlefield 3 doesn't stand a chance of edging out Call of Duty this fall.

"Sources suggest that maybe only 5% to 7% of the PC players of Battlefield 3 will have the hardware capable of pushing the PC version to the max when Battlefield arrives this fall."

Got to agree with this,it shows that DICE have not gone down the console port route and have stuck to their guns about a "real PC game".The fact that there will be NO XP and DX9 just makes sure that they are pushing PC gaming along.

If you think back to BF2,they made sooooooo many people upgrade that it brought on a new evolution in graphics cards alone JUST BECAUSE of that game(which made other devs play catch up),without BF2 pushing the boundaries as it did,we may have only just be reaching the Nvid 200/ATI 4000 series by now......

Pinched this from Bit-tech,too drunk to check the maths but it looks right to me.....(Steam hardware figures)

22% are still on DX9 or below, hardware and software. And decreasing.

17% are on DX10 hardware and DX9 software. And decreasing.

61% are on DX10 or above, hardware and software. And increasing.

The game will be released in seven months.

We all know that STEAM is not 100% accurate, but it does give a pretty good insight(Apart from all the P4,76/78ooGT fanboys who will NOT upgrade(as all they play is CS:S).

I can not wait for this(need to retire the Q6600 and the 4890 methinks, this is the only excuse to do so,so far)Who knows how far this may push gaming as a result?

I don't particularly mind the high specs bearing in mind I'm upgrading this year, but hopefully nobody is put off by the high specs

Cool, I hope they have the little bird in the multiplayer, I have not rocked one of those since Delta Force Extreme.

i need a tissue, this is going to be amazing. The dialogue between the characters is top notch and the graphics are some of the best iv seen for a FPS. I( hope this is more successfully that MoH because i like that game much more than BlackOps but no one plays it anymore. I hope this blows the next cod away.

Oh, it will. Trust me. The Frostbite 2 engine has been in the making for 3 years and the PC community aren't getting left out this time round. This is going to be one fucking epic shooter. Especially with the limited edition version. Free BF2 maps!

looking at what they say that this is gonna push PCs specs to the limit, looks like Battlefield 3 is gonna be the new Crysis . Im all for it, i need a reason to upgrade my GTX275 ;-)

BTW for those of you on FB, they need 1million "likes" to unlock the new 12 min trailer, currently "only" @700K

Maybe if its powerful enough, we can bypass Crysis2 as a new benchmark, Maybe Battlefield 3 can be the new game to run for Benchmarks
