Battlefield 3 recommended specs

Hehehe, yes it should be fine, they used Gainward 580s at E3 and when they let people play pre Alpha, Alpha versions, so with the game a bit more refined it should be fine

I think we should be fine at 1920 x 1080/1200 with the 580.

According Daniel Matros the community manager for DICE that you'll need two 580s in SLI to get the most out of BF3.

Good times ahead =D, of course everyone's idea of 'playable' frames rates are different, so you might even need more than 580s in SLI. But if BF3 is extremely tessellation heavy you could probably get away with two 6970s.

Also general rule of thumb with AMD Mobile GPUs -100 from the number to get the desktop equivalent.

Yep, with some Ic-diamond and some innovation, lets see if we can get rid of that whole "slower clock" aspect ;D

Definitely, but you might end up blowing up your laptop

. Doesn't it already get too hot?

For me, anything above 30 is 'playable' as long as the heavy fight scenes do not cause the FPS to drop below 30. I can't believe how demanding crysis 1 is. I get a 40 fps average with a factory overclocked 580 on the maximum settings on a 1920 x 1200 monitor. Surprisingly it is extremely smooth and it seems more smooth than GTA IV on which the average is above 60.

That has to do with respensiveness and animation quality

Oh. Thanks. It might also be because of optimization, because GTA IV frame rates are not consistent (i.e. they fluctuate between low-medium-high frame rates. It's not that bad but it does make it seem less smooth), whereas the crysis framerates thus far have not dropped below 30 and mostly range between 30 - 45(ish).

That's just media BS tbh. I've said it before and will say it again, the BF3 copies running at E3 had a single Gainward 580 running them, unless DICE have introduced more features and not optimized it well enough, a 580 should be fine.

This post might be a bit late but the Rendering Architect at DICE has confirmed that the recommended specs are for the high settings. I think this is great news as it means that people with lower end cards will be able to play at the low-medium settings.

Here is a nice Graphic I found detailing what card is capable of what.

So it looks like you will be able to play on medium-high settings.

EDIT: You can check if your system meets the recommended settings by using the Nvidia GPU Analyzer for BF3.

With fps, just disable the smoke and fog stuff, I do it, helps visibility, and with a weaker setup it has the additional benefit of extra fps
