Hey ppl!

I've recently been reading up on linux installations and i came accross 'backtrack'

Because i am currently enrolled in CCNA(google it if you dont know:) we are focusing on wirless networks (Semester 1) and our mentor has asked us to gather basic knowledge on infaltrating WEP and WPA-PSK networks and be able to make it hard for a hacker to hack into a wirless network. Now next week were going to be playing a 'Cops and robbers' sort of thing.I'm going to be the hacker and another ccna student will be the defender.

I would like to be able to do this all from the backtrack live cd I downloaded but i am really lost on how to use it :mad:

I boot it,login then the desktop appears.Now i get stuck here because i dont know how to configure my wirless card (AT ALL!)

I really do appreciate any help you crazy OC3D'ers have to offer and obv' i came here first! (Seriously)

Thanks again ppl!!!!!:worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

Oh and this gathering of knowledge will be strictly used for 'ethical' purpouses only;)(HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I take it you are using Backtrack 4?its very buggy atm so dont expect miracles.Have you looked on the backtrack forums to see which adapters can be recognised and do work for packet injection and son?

I had no end of troubles with Backtrack and wireless cards. It seems for now that Linux + Wireless = Don't bother.

Can you try a different distro?

I use linux and wireless every day. Its pretty good. I have never tried backtrack, take a look at using something like crunchylinux or ubuntu, as I have found they are best I have found for out of the box drivers.

Forgot about Ubuntu. Ubuntu has pretty good support for wireless buuuut it is basically a Windows clone because it is designed to be easy for people coming from Windows.

So you may as well use Windows if you run Ubuntu in my opinion. Not really amazing at configuring wireless obn Linux anyway I guess you have looked at the backtrack forums?

You going to be pretty limited with windows in this arena. There arnt many wifi cards that support monitor mode. Best bet would be to go for BT3 and head to the forums, they have loads of video tutorials.

Thanks evri1 4 help.I have looked arround on a couple of forums and i have found that ONLY 1 of my wirless cards would work on backtrack! I'VE GOT 5!!!!!!!! Anyway....I have found an amazing card by a company called ALFA Networks, i'm gonna be ordering the AWUS036H model next week.It supports packet injection, monitor mode and all that blaaaahhhhh. lol.

And i think ill give BT3 a try with my current cards for now and see what happens.

THANKS EVERY1 FOR THE HELP AND HAPPY HACKING!!!!!!!!!!

:)
