Backorder

So, I stroll into the local computer store and ask them to order another Asus 5850 for me, I buy local because:

1) the prices are competitive to those online

2) I prefer to support local business

3) They have a great supplier

I order it and they say ok man..It's gonna be a week or two, the supplier has none in stock. Everything is on back-order and it should take up to 2 weeks maximum. Long story short, it's been past two weeks now, and they say it could be another couple of weeks too a month...SNAP. How many people are ordering the Asus specifically is what gets me...Everything else seems to be around, XFX, powercolor, the list goes on. Is the voltage tweak software and hardware capabilities really that good(this first one isnt Oc'd atm)? Are other suppliers having any troubles keeping these cards in stock?

I understand Asus quality is top end with most components they so choose to produce, but waiting around for few weeks on top of this two is killing my soul. Also with Xfire, do we still see frame stutter, as most know it has been a problem in the past.

DUnno if you've got this sorted yet, but doesn't MSI afterburner work on most cards, regardless of make? Sure Asus has its own volt changer but if the MSI one works on any brand, why wait?

It's a valid point, just today I asked them how much longer my card was gonna be and they didn't have an answer. The economy in the past two years has been sketchy, where the little guys have been hurtin and the big guys only pump out so much at a time. Good business because they know they wont be stuck with product on the shelves for to long. It sucks tho for the consumer or the smaller companies in the industry as I said. Hard pressed when I cant get a card that I want because Asus wont ship another batch for god knows how long.

It maybe gigabyte soon enough, Ive already returned my Asus m4a79xtd evo (latch on cpu block broken...power sw, reset sw, HDD led placement is horrid for cable management). Picked up a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H to try out. USB 3.0, and everything else the Asus has for 5 more dollars. Better hardware with the gigabyte I think, they run cooler but the software isn't as good as what asus pumps out. Im looking forward to using it and maybe a gigabyte hd 5850 as well.

I've always found the asus software to be a bit of a pain. I mean there are some advantages but, quite a lot of it is geared to saving power...that's not what I run two computers simultaneously for.

I think Im gonna be patient on this one, the Asus 5850 is the best out there for overclocking and plus I already have one asus. MSI afterburner wont work with all cards because the voltage inc comes from a controller, so its a physical thing u have on the card. Some manufacturers have it and some dont. I hope it's gonna worth waiting around for another who knows how long haha :P Thx for the advice tho just the same :)

Well, You just scored me like the last asus 5850 in the world right now( not really but nothing in north america atm) lol....cheers, Id send you a case of beer but ill be broke after this.

Anytime glad I could help crossfire should be pretty sweet with matching cards too.

Now all I need is the next 18 days to fly by so I can finish my build :(
