Backing-up/Sync Software

I currently have a Western Digital Passport External Harddrive to back-up all my data and files. It ran ok on my last pc but i'm running Vista 64-bit now and it's very unstable and un-reliable. Obviously I want something that I know is good and my data is secure, so can anyone suggest to me good Backing-up software I could use instead of the software on my Harddrive?

you could make use of a simple xcopy, even use microsofts free synctoy.

SyncToy 2.0 ftw, great little piece of software, I use it pretty much daily. Not often I praise MS software.

Yeah the Sync-toy is great, I have 2 harddrives would it be safe backing up my data onto another harddrive in my pc? (it doesnt have an OS on it or anything).

I have an external HDD but its not very stable with Vista.
