ATI HD 6970 & Windows Experience Index

Lol yeah noticed your post when I re-read the thread. Had already posted it though. Anyway, there's no harm in me also recommending it ;')

Good, at least now you know it isn't your memory. Could you post a pic of the pixelated patches you speak of?

One thing I would do is run Furmark / MSI Kombustor for an hour or so and see if that causes any errors / freezes / crashes.

Also, you mentioned the TV tuner crashed? Try running the WEI test without the tuner plugged in. It's a long shot, but you never know.

Testing your motherboard isn't so easy. The easiest way is to try a different mobo and see if the problem persists.

If you want, another thing you could check for errors is your hard drive. You can do that using HDtune Pro. Look for the Health tab and the Error scan tab.

If the problem is still occuring, you could try the things I've mentioned above. If you have performed all of those, you have pretty much tested every hardware component of your system.

If that doesn't help, perhaps doing a fresh install of Windows fixes your problem.

Given the information you provided, that's about as far as my suggestions go I'm afraid.

Well it's FIXED!!! God so releived.. It was simple my card needed it's own bios.. Thank you, you lovely creatures for all the help and so dig I learned to use some of those testing programs..

The bios wasn't in the cards install CD nor is it in the various downloads of drivers.. found it on the Gigabyte site.

xxxxooooo

What do you mean by BIOS? The AMD Catalyst Drivers?

Anyway it's good that you got to the bottom of the issue.

Well this bios wasn't in the usual drivers for the card, I had a driver from the cards install CD, then one from Windows update and finally a very new one from ATIs site for the 6000 cards.. all with out it.

But when I went to the makers site, Gigabyte, there was a bios download in the cards info so I tried it and it fixed it.

I had no idea a vid card would need its own bios, which is probably just common knowlage to more experienced people.

LOl, we live and learn.

Very strange indeed! I've never had to flash the bios of my graphics card.

I just don't think it was there in the typical places I was looking for latest drivers.. I think I didn't even have it as it is only one bios for all the 6000 series.. So I doubt it was an update... It's all new to me, my first build etc..

Just so glad it is working now

You wouldn't expect a manufacturer to ship cards with a bad bios flash.. Oh well, glad it's fixed!
