ATI Crossfire discussion

Right guys I have my Crossfire Master card installed - it actually turned out to be a Sapphire 1900XT. I also have an MSI XTX working along with it, so I guess the incompatibility people were worried about is a nonsense? They were identified (and installed) in the device manager as Crossfire so I presume everything is working fine?? I'm using the Catalyst Control Centre 6.2 which is the latest official ATI release - however my first hurdle was my own stupid mistake. I have selected 640x480 and now my tft throws a fit when I restarted - I guess I'll have to safe mode it and reselect my test resolution.. What else should I look out for before I test this sucker?

I wasn't aware that was any incompatibility worries between using an XT Master and XTX slave? I thought it was common knowledge that the XTX only runs as fast as the Master?

It would be nice to see XTX Master cards appear though!

I mean different brand boards not working with each other - as almost every reseller will tell you! I'm running a Sapphire Master with a MSI slave.

It's also disputed on various forums that the XTX slows to the pace of the XT - so I will have to test this for myself. Some people say that the XTX and XT remain at their independent speeds. I guess Daz would know this?

Nothing really to look out for, enable CF in ccc, alter voltages and clocks and fan speeds for each device id in atitool, then begin testing.Btw 3dm06 doesn't like mipmap level detail set to high performance.

The cards default to the speed of the slowest, so in this case its the XT master.

Interesting to see results from this :D

I thought that was one of the benifits over SLi - the fact that you could mix and match brands ( i know you can do this with Sli now)

Okay I'm doing a first run in 05 :D

Specs:

Venice 3000 @ stock

Asus A8R32-MVP shipping bios

2GB Gskill 4000 @ SPD

Sapphire XT Mastercard @ stock

MSI XTX Slave @ stock crossfire enabled

2 x Raptor X 150GB 10,000rpm drives

Win XP Pro SP2

I'd expect this to be *shocking* :D

First run @ stock settings, everything set to High Performance in the control centre.

Guys I am having a few *teething* problems - in the control centre if you go into the overdrive section is says the card is "requesting" 621mhz for the core but the "actual" is 500mhz. It says a similar thing for the memory speeds. I cant change this? Why is this? I've downloaded the ATI tool and this doesnt appear to work either what am I doing wrong?

Try clocking the cards individually i.e. with one card installed at a time.

Then installing both cards in crossfire mode.

Thats all i can think of. :D

Hey Phil, just got in from work and saw this,if you are still struggling, catch me on msn.In the meantime, you have to "unlock" the cards in the top part of overdrive section before you can adjust clocks in overdrive.

05 ? Seems like something is wrong there, my overclocked x1800xt will hit around about 11000.
