ATI claims X1800XT scores are wrong

OUR GOOD friend Sander Saucy pants turned busy Friday afternoon and so therefore we had a long working weekend in front of us. Anyway he managed to raise hell as its "R520XT" numbers made Nvidia happy while ATI was not that happy at all with the scores.

Obviously ATI wanted to find out what was going on and who might have sent Sander Sassen the card, and it transpires ATI claims there's no possible way that those scores are true.

ATI claims it still hasn’t sent a single R520XT board to any of its partners. The Radeon X1800XT is getting ready and the first batch of the card is produced but not even the big OEMs have these cards.

We spoke with numerous people on Friday and Saturday, and it turns out that the only cards that might be available for some key partners are Radeon X1800XL cards.

So it looks like that guy was either bullshitting or had an X1800XL. (Or ATI is the one bullshitting because they don't want to look bad.

One of the key things that you must bear in mind is that R520XL, Radeon X1800XL can not be overclocked well. Voltage leakage will prevent you to increase voltage and that will limit your overclockability. This voltage leakage was the key reason for such of delay of R520. Only the flagship Radeon X1800XT will overclock like crazy. So even if some board partners tried to overclock some of the Radeon X1800 XL cards it simply would not work as you could never even touch those XT speeds of 600/1400MHz, so ATI and others claim.

So what this means if it is true is that the X1800XT still might be quite nice :D It's good nVidia is going to get some true competition, they might actually come out with a 7800 Ultra.

We hate to be in the middle of any wars, even though my job is to be the middle man to take all the dirt from both ATI and Nvidia but this is just getting ridiculous. Boys with toys I guess. Whatever happens you will see the real R520 scores in just over two weeks now if not sooner.

Don't give up on ATI just yet - I'm looking forward to the real scores :D

Yeah I read about this. Some pretty freaky stuff goin around. I wonder who's really true? :S

Hopefully ati is telling the truth cause i want nvidia to release a 7800 ultra :D

baaah I doubt it, ATi is just sry that they made a crappy product that lost nvidia again :D :rollingla

Hmmm.....ATi essentially won the last two rounds (obviously the 9800 vs 5900 went to ATi.....the X850 vs. 6800 went to ATi by a much much smaller margin)....but now ATi is just BEHIND.....no matter if the X1800 is equal, better, worse....nVidia is like 4 months ahead of ATi working on a GeForce 8 I'm sure.....ATi needs to move and quick...they'll find themselves in trouble if they're MONTHS late to the table for multiple years in a row...

I don't want to see either ATi or Nvidia fail....I want this competition just as heated as can be....its resulted in major kickass improvements to GPU market that we'd never have seen if they didn't.

they might actually come out with a 7800 Ultra.

i dont really think that will hapen because with the geforce 6 series they only released the gt and the ultra. and they already have the 7800gt and gtx, so do you really think they will make an even better version?
