ASUS Z370 Maximus X Hero Review

I know you can only love or hate RGB, but I honestly think, there could be more lights on this board. Other than that, I want it!!! Sadly DDR5 is - not exactly around the corner, but - coming soon, so I might just wait that little longer until I upgrade from my 4770k setup...

I need help making a decision

I'm in the market for a new motherboard, and I'm stuck between the maximus 10 hero and the rampage 6 extreme. Besides the newer wireless and 10GB/s internet ports, what exactly would I be buying for $650.00 that the maximus 10 hero doesn't have, and what more can the rampage do that the hero can't?

You can get extreme capabilities in overclocking potential.

If the Hero has everything you need, you can just get the Hero. It'll overclock as far as the Maximus will for people on air or water. The Maximus is really for LN2.

Maximus X Hero and Rampage VI Extreme are motherboards on completely different platforms. If you are asking which one to get then go for Maximus. You don't need Rampage.

I appreciate the help, but what does the rampage 6 have that the maximus 10 doesn't? What would I be paying the extra hundreds of dollars for?

In a word... Everything... Maximus doesn't have a single thing from Rampage with the exception of generic parts (plastic for PCIE slots, and other connectors). And every thing on Rampage is a level or more above in quality.

I understand your question, and that you are beginner. Few things to clear out. These motherboards are not on the same platform. They don't support same CPUs, nor are they meant for same users. So they can't be compared directly as such.

Rampage is probably the best motherboard in the world at the moment, the king of kings. It has X299 chipset for High End Desktop computers (for enthusiasts that do heavy professional work). It supports 18-Core Skylake X CPUs.

Maximus X Hero is entry level Republic of Gamers motherboard (high end mid range board). It has X370 chipset for Mainstream computers (mostly gamers, and light workloads). It support 6-Core Coffee Lake CPUs.

I don't know how to explain it to you without putting a Chinese Wall of text. The very thought that you need to ask that question means that you are probably wasting money on either of these two motherboards. Especially the Rampage. You won't know how to use those boards, apart from the looks.

I'd definitely decide on what CPU you want to go for before making a motherboard choice. as Avet said, those two boards use completely different processors.

Everyday use, but not for any engineering programs.

If that's the case, I wouldn't go for something like an i5 8600k or i7 8700k.
I also wouldn't recommend either of the previously mentioned mother boards. Both are designed for the enthusiast market with many features for heavy overclocking. If you aren't going to use these features, you could save your self a lot of money by going for something different such as the Asus Z370 prime for only £110 on amazon. This would be compatible with the i5 and i7 I just mentioned, and does support overclocking anyway should you ever choose to dabble in that.

Mr Logan has already done a review featuring this board and the 8700K which is certainly worth checking out.

Hope this helps. Any further questions, i'll do my best :)
