ASUS Reveal their GTX 1080 Strix Gaming

From Techpowerup GTX 1080 review and 980ti Gigabyte XtremeGaming review (March, 2016):

BF3 - 980ti at 1492/2090Mhz - 136FPS
BF3 - 1080 at stock - 137FPS

They perform the same in that benchmark.

That explains the sky high price, they know that 980ti is still very powerful card, so to stop prices falling down on 980ti they inflate prices on 1080 which I can only assume clock to clock is slower than 980Ti. I highly doubt that performance will increase with "mature" drivers. I'll stick to my 980 SLI ... or upgrade to single high clock 980Ti if I can score a bargain.

Pretty normal TBH. Until they have a reason to lower their prices they wont. Better to allow the previous card to sell at a decent price than a big price cut to get rid of old stock.

Pascal GM104 appears to be Maxwell on steroids. It's the same basic principle of high clocks but taken one step further. Without high clocks Maxwell and Pascal would not be very competitive or relevant.

I spoke to a mate at a major component retailer who said that they were expecting a two week further delay on the gtx 1080 strix due to heatsinks having to be reseated.

Yeah been seeing this too. Pascal really isn't anything new. Kinda Maxwell on a new node/process that allows it to click super high. They added improved some features and couple features but nothing really crazy. This explains why really high clocked Maxwell cards aren't far behind atm

Yeah, a 980ti actually scores more clock for clock. I'm not sure if that can be said for the 780ti versus the 980ti.

Yet again I hear the strix has been delayed despite paying up front for a full system on 27th May - I'm losing faith now but the company - mesh can't offer me an alternative : / so its back to waiting. Again.

I would have asked for a refund and built one but that's not everybody's cup of tea ;)

I explored the refund route to be told it would take up to 3 weeks for my money - same timescale they initially quoted it would take them to get their hands on a strix. So I decided to stick. In addition they would charge me !5% - as apparently my system is already built and would need re-stocking. I then get told cards due today. Hear nothing. Call up and told apologies Asus just emailed us it will be another 10 working days ;/ . Annoyingly my bro ordered a week after me with Yoyotech, was told of the delay and they swapped him to a EVGA SC the same day and gave him £80 back. Needless to say he's been enjoying for the past 2 weeks. Now, it doesn't surprise me that the good people of OC3D would build their own systems. I've not had a PC in years so ordered a review build system recommended in PC gamer - as the main draw was 'the components if bought separately were significantly more than the cost of the system.' Seems foolish now given their lack of options and constant delays. So the wait goes on...
