I have never realy seen the point in spending alot of money on a set of headphones. As i have always played games or music out loud. But with the addition of a new baby in house. obviously the noises created by some games especially those with alot of low level thuds. can be heard throughout the house. And this meant playing games and music and mivies on my PC via my OZone Attack headphones. Very cheap set indeed.

However when asked what I wanted for my Birthday from my girlfriend I decided to go for a set of decent headphones. And in keeping with the ROG them of my PC I selected the Vulcane ANC's

They retail At and around the £80 mark. And are marketed as a "HIGH END" professional gaming headset.

The headphones arrived nextday delivery thanks to Scans amazing service. And I have to say I was suprised that the headset did not come in the typical ROG box. Instead they Asus seem to have toned down the ROG theme on the reatail box's onlyincluding a small ROG logo to the top left corner.

The box presentation itself is lovely with glossy pictures of the headset and all sorts of technical information printed around all 6 sides of the box.

Their is a flap at the front of the box typical of these sort of items. that enables you to see what you are buying. with a clear plastic cover protecting the Republic of gamers almost heart shaped Carry case for the headphones.

When we opwn the box up fully we fined a quickstart guid in the typical ROG logo. and the customary warrenty booklet. As well as a rather fancy looking rubberised protective case for the headset.

Inside the casing itself we fined the headset with one side of it folded up into the otherside to minimise the need for a huge carry case.

In the oposite compartment of the case. we fined are boom mic, and also the heaphone cables. This was imidiatly pleasing to see that the headphone wires themselfs could be removed.

The headphones themself are very light. finished in a glossy Red, black and carbon fibre theme. with the ROG logo on both of the earcups and a chrome Asus logo where the hinge is.

The earcups themself are not like most headsets instead of being mounted on a small axis for adjustability the vulcanes earcups are Suspended almost floting on a large foam cusion that means 360 degrees of movemeant, for optimal comefort.

The ear cusions themselfs are large enough to cover the whole ear and are also made from a memory foam to increase comfort further. The headband is also a very soft memory foam But is not to thick like somt headsets. the adjusting straps give you 40mm of height adjustmeant on each side, just incase you happen to have a head like a dispicable me minion.

The microphone boom is obviously removable. And keeps the same Red and black theme as we have come to know and love from ROG gear. When connected to the headphones, the joint is seemless and looks to be an integral part of them, rather than a plug in option.

The ANC or Active Noise Cancelation is powerd by a single AAA battery. At first glypse it took me nearly 2 miniuted to figure out where the battery should actualy Be. Then I found a small button that popped of the ROG logo carbon fibre effect cap to reveal a battery tray.

The Mic, headphone wire socket, and ANC switch are all located on one side of the headphones.

The headphone wire itself has the small inline control unit. no special features here just a decent streangh sprung clip, volume control and Mic on/off toggle.

Now itstime to see just how much difference a set of decent headphones makes over a cheap pair.

So being a Friday night (when doing the tests) And it also fallinginline with the release of RAGE. what better way to test them out that to loud up Rage.

Imidiatly even with the intro movies and developer logos popping up on the screen an imence difference these headsets made. Everything was amazingly crisp and clear.

Started a new game of rage and set about enjoying the Stunning scenes of the games wilst enjoying amazing Audio. Then after a wile It was time to try that little switch on the lefthand earcup the ANC. Imediate difference. I could no longer here the drone of my 6870's cooling fans or the keys on my keyboared. Or pretty much anything that was not generated by the game for that matter. The sound was instantly improved. and I found my self more imersed into the game than befor as now it was just me and the game. I forgot that their was a rather large RV03 sat next to me with 10 fans wirring away as they no longermade anysound at all.

So for Gaming I have to say these things are amazing. I also had a conversation with a friend via Skype. and the difference in quality he heard from the mic was brilliant. So even the Mic performs better.

Now the next thing i did was load up some music. Now here is where the ANCfalls on its bum to be honest. Wile it works brilliantly in games. when using mediaplayer to watch or listen to music. the ANC seems to flatten the sound. bringing everything into the same level. Wile this still sounds great. you only have to reach and turn off the ANC to here that the music and films sound better with it switched off.

I did however have a play with the equalizer settings and managed to get the music to sound a bit better wile ANC was enabled.

Conclusion.

If you want a great headset, that is on par with some of the more expensive Razor headsets costing twice as much this is for you. Sound quality is amazing. and wile gaming with ANC turned on you forget about everything else in the room ZERO distractions.

Wile playing music or movies i would say to turn off ANC. I imagine this is only because they have a single audible track wilst games use multiple tracks simultaniuosly.

This is also a veryrare head it is unusual to have a ANC headset that is not USB. And this is great for those people who have paid alot out for excellent soundcards.

All in all They are brilliant peice of kit. worth everypenny. Rugged stylish. BRILLIANT!!!

10/10

Surprised you've got any time for gaming with all those sleepless nights and nappy changes. Fortunately for me that is now a long distant memory.
