ASUS Rampage III

I am new on this forum, so first of all HELLO to everyone!

Now, can anyone explain me the difference between the Asus R.O.G. Rampage III Extreme and the Formula Version??

I am thinking about building a new i7 rig and would be happy about any recommendations... I use my PC mainly for Gaming, but like to OC as well. And i want a MB that i will be happy with for the next few years.

Thanks

the extreme has an extra pcie slot and i think some extra features but not too sure.

i would just go for the extreme though, you know its a good board from all the reviews and reliable

The formula is crap. Buy the Asus sabertooth, if you dont know the difference you wont need the extreme

I was looking at the Sabertooth to... seems to be a good option then.

Since i'am getting such good response from you guys, i keep on asking.

Another one i looked at was the GA-X58A-UD3R, any thoughts about that one? I just thought i might try another brand than ASUS for once...

On the Gigagbyte web page i read a warning about the "Marvell SE9128" controller not being recommended for RAID0 with SSD's. Is this just because of the TRIM issue? Or is there a serious problem behind that??

No SSD's can be raided and still have TRIM dude. Its just an issue with the fact the controller spazzes out and breaks the array and can have really bad throughput speeds aswell.

Ive got a UD3R V2 here but tbh the Sabertooth is the best £150 motherboard I have ever touched, its so good Id buy it with my own cash.

I know there is no TRIM under RAID0. (Obviously...)

But is this the ONLY reason they don't recommend it?

And yes, yes, stop telling me, i will get the Sabertooth

Hay mate.

Just wondering if you could elaborate on why the formula board is crap?

I'm looking at getting one because of the asthetics, I'm not going for the highest overclock possible since I want my chip to last.

Price I'm not worried about since I'll be able to afford it.

But if there's something really detrimental then I'll go for the Sabertooth because I hate the blue colour scheme of the other 2 boards. Although Poo Brown and Poo Green ain't exactly to my taste either.

Sabertooth - $369

P6X58D Premium - $479

P6X58D-E - $379

Rampage 3 Formula - $499

And could you please recommed what ram I should go with for both boards?

I would say go for some Mushkin memory, if you are able to get them where you are based. Especially the ones at 1600 MHz and a low latency are great. Otherwise, Kingston, Corsair and other componies make great memory aswell.

Thanks man, funny you say that. I have my eye on some Dominator GTs @ 1600 7-7-7-20. I think I might go for the Sabertooth. Other reviews I've read the Dominator GT's didn't do so well on the Formula and the Sabertooth is faster in benchmarks I've seen on all tests also. Both of them should nicely accompany an i7 950.
