Looking at a few motherboards to buy for my next rig, and I came across something strange about the Asus Maximus IV Extreme.
I plan to be running two graphics cards (probs dual 580's) but the PCI bandwidth on the Asus board is a little strange.
The Asus website quotes:
Single @ 16x
Dual @ 8x, 8x
Triple @ 8x, 16x, 16x
Running high end cards in 8x PCI lanes is dumb in my opinion.
Since I plan to run two cards, that renders my options down to 8x, 8x. However could I get past this and install an sound card in the top lane (so it runs at 8x), and then install the two graphics card in the bottom lanes (so they run at 16x, 16x)?
Just a theory.
