hi all

just wanted to pick your brains sorry but im new to intel after being a amd fan boy for so long ive seen the light lol

i got hold of a asus maximus 4 gene z it was too good a deal to pass up
how good are the mobos as ive never used sandy or ivy this will be my only intel ive ever had and what are the best cpu,s for it as ive seen more shops get more and more ivybridge and not so much of sandybridge
can i run a ivy bridge on a z68 chipset ?

yes it will run ivy with a bios update and u can update without a cpu on the mobo. Im running the same mobo and im very happy with it.

cool i was thinking for a min that i just got a mobo that i carnt use as most shops stoped selling sandy bridge cpu,s due to ivy being so big right now
im not sue how well i done with this buy i paid 80 pounds for it i was trying to get hold of the maximus 5 but no one had any and i found this on gumtree

anyone have any good idea as to what cpu is best im not looking to over clockjust a bit of gameing and so on ?

oohh be very careful on that! you might get into some doo-doo you don't wanna
get into. depending on what BIOS is installed you might not be able to get away
with that. i too have a GENE-Z and runs sandy beautifilly. slapped an i5-3570k
and would not post.. re-installed i5-2550k and rans fine. reset BIOS before the
re-installation of 3570k and still bonkers. put the 2550k back in, flashed BIOS
to 0902 and shazzam.. it finally worked. if board has BIOS beter than 0902/3202
then you have no fears for IB CPU. i believe the BIOS version will allow for non-CPU
if you have a version later than 0403. or mine would not..
80 is a fair price.. not a smoking give-away, but a fair used board price.
for easy grins, find a cheap 2500k or 3570k and overclock till sunday.. awesome
phase control, others have complained about running warmer MOSFET temps than
the bigger ATX brothers.. i hadn't found that issue out yet @ 4.8 1.35VCORE.
doesn't really matter, im using it as a fill in, till i get the M5F into the midi custom
build.
you got about one of the better boards to do all that with

thanks guys for the info i think im going with a 3570k as i can pick one up anywere only place that ive seen that has 2500k is scan and i tend not to buy online that much

thanks very much guys helped loads
