ASUS Marine Cool Motherboard

Dear mother of god that thing's a beast. Cooling looks very high though, so possibly enthusiast cooling only (water at least). I'm suprised the stock cooling doesn't support water.

EDIT: relooking at the pictures... Where the hell have the dimm slots gone? Just behind the IO plate? I also don't get the part of onboard memory... In case the integrated memory goes bad. Isn't that quite the same?

Oh, price? 500 pounds or something :p

SO-DIMM slots on a desktop board, wtf?

On-board ram and ups? over complications ftl. More t go wrong.

Hmmm yea now I recognise that strange slot. Say bye to the performance gained with the OC -.- Unless they of course have integrated some kickass controller.

Which they probably have with such a board.

One fatal flaw in the target of this board; most people who actually give a hoot about their PC's stability and heat output, are those who also want to overclock.

At keast they are actualy designing them to look nice now, although giga byte boards still look like puke with all the colours.

Bout time they started to make them pretty imho - more to mod ;)

Surely money would be better spent on an external UPS, so you can still use your monitor etc if power goes.

This has to be for an oem specific purpose.

I was kinda wondering if those pci slots are in the right place.

Think as far as the memory goes, they could be unlinking it which would make the type and vendor pretty irrelevant. Not for those who want the tiny benefits to be had by bending ur memory alone.

Best I could think of was laptop ddr2..

Dunno, labs come up with some strange things sometimes. Prototypes may just have that memory for practical purposes ??

From what I can see, they have made it different colours to the norm, added dune buggy style heatpipes or whatever that is at the rear (why...?) and probably added an extra few quid on in the process. A ceramic backplate...? What was wrong with metal, I hardly think ceramic is a good idea, too expensive too, it is not like our motherboards will be re-entering the earths atmo any time soon that we need something like that!

How many of you have been overclocking when there is a power cut, and your initial thought is "Damn, I nearly had 4Ghz as well", rather than "crap, now I can't see anything, there is a very expensive PC on a desk next to me and I am probably going to break it by tripping on the cat below me and falling" etc.

Nice idea, but not groundbreaking

Remeber guys its a concept.

Show me a concept car which ever ever made it into production.

Its more of a well look what we can do but wont.:wavey:

I think people care getting carried away with trying to point out the "bad" bits. If it used SO-DIMM's as displayed, what's to say that it's not utilising a new technology instead of the current one?

Remember it's a concept product of "look what we can do" as Daza said...personally, I think it's bloody awsesome what these engineers are starting to develop for motherboards....look what they were like 5 years ago!

I agree. I think the proof of concept is a great idea and it shows that ASUS are looking to develop the motherboard further than what we've had for some time. Nice job ASUS

Hopefully we will see trimmed down versions of some of the stuff shown in future boards.

Interesting board deffo...

Whats the chip above the south bridge?

Been comparing it to my P5k premium, lots of stuff in the same place but some new and interesting chips knocking about.

So-dimms are an interesting addition yes.

As its a prototype you would have thought it would be on something newer than skt 775

The cpu cooler would suit WC'ing , be a lot of air coolers wouldnt fit with the size of the NB block.

I myself like it. Notice the PCI slot area ... something just doesnt look right there, but cant put my finger on it.

Massive cluster of capicitors, there only looks to be 2 fan headers too? 1 cpu one chassis fan.

Very interesting board and as mentioned no puke inducing colours like giga's ram slots choice etc...
