ASUS announce their ROG Swift PG27UQ 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR monitor

The Acer X34A costs £1199.99, The Asus PG348Q costs £1289.99.

When you're dealing with prices of 1K+, £90 isn't a lot.

So what's Acer's excuse then with their Ultrawide monitor ? ^_^

Well what's ASUS excuse down here then.

Acer Predator X34 Curved 34in G-Sync IPS Gaming Monitor $1449.00
ASUS PG348Q ROG Swift 34in 100Hz G-Sync IPS Gaming Monitor $1779.00

Like you said Dice there both the same monitor like what's ASUS excuse.

And i have said this i would rather buy the X34 over the Swift cause of ASUS BS pricing.

"ASUS TAX"

Personally in the case of these two ultrawides, its not just asus tax that i dont like, i personally dont like the aesthetic of the asus stand, x34 wins me in that. However, make a stand like the x34 or the PG279Q on the asus ultrawide then i'd get the asus

But the pixel density would be no better than 1440p/27" at that size. Is 40" gaming at 2 feet really that special? I'm trying to picture it and I'm sure it would be epic. But would it be worth it? That's what will hold me back, likely. Two years from now, 4k monitors and GPU's capable of handling it will be affordable. That's when I'll likely be upgrading again. We'll see, I guess.

Depends on what you're doing with it. For racing games or flight sims where the extra real estate is going past you at a great rate of knots then yeah the resolution and pixel density doesn't matter so much. A lot of sim racers use 34" 2560*1080 ultrawides at stupidly high refresh rates or they will use a massive 50 or 60" TV. It's all about the immersion.

If you're photo editing or playing other games then better pixel density would make the experience a lot sweeter. I'm keen on 3440*1440 for my next resolution and ditch the triples.

Edit - and Plus one for the Asus Tax. The Swift was just shy of $2K on release the Predator has always been 200-300 cheaper here. I also prefer the aesthetic of the Predator but would be mounting on a dual (Over/Under) stand anyways.

Yes and i think from memory i was bang on for the price.

Same again when you compare 24 inch monitors when there both the same the ACER one is $150 cheaper ASUS is just taking the pi** for that price.

Luckily I got my PG348Q when it was on sale over Christmas so it came out to £998 rather than £1289.99 so it was still £200 cheaper than the Acer which is £1199.99 and I opted for it rather than the Acer due to QC and terrible customer service that Acer seem to have judging by the many many negative comments from various forums and people I know.

I'm sorry Dice that's a BS comment to make about ACER when ASUS has terrible customer service as well.

Oh another thing too, I remember when you last had a Swift monitor when you went through about 5 or 6 of them, I think you said at the time i will not be buying another Swift monitor again.

Also how come that most reviewers on YouTube have said the X34 is the best gaming monitor on the market even after 12 or more months are release.

Would love if they could tone down their awful gaming monitor design language. Great monitor specs, but it looks terrible. I much prefer Acer, Samsung, or LG's sleeker looks. The red ROG stand light is useless and distracting, unlike others white/RGB implementations that can illuminate a good portion of desk and/or keyboard. Insta-buy for me if they could address those issues.

the stand is just garish as can be. I bought a swivel stand to save space and stop my eyes suffering the undeserved monstrosity that they now consider "RoG" design.

Didn't even see this comment until now ^_^

Lovely happy comment from you as usual.......

In MY experience I've had good service from Asus, What other company free of charge would pick up and drop off another monitor 6 times ?

The QC on the PG278Q was absolutely terrible and I could definitely not recommend that monitor to anyone based solely on my experience with it.

I have 2 Acer monitors in my household, Pretty low end ones but they do the job, 1 my flatmate uses and another I use for my HTPC so there isn't anything wrong with them as a company but again from all the info I saw the X34 had a lot of QC issues which is why I opted for the only other Ultrawide on the market that has G-Sync and 100Hz, Touch wood there's no dead or stuck pixels, Overclocked straight to 100Hz and it's a joy to use.

I will wait for (hopefully) an ultra wide 34" 165 Hz capable G-Sync monitor with the current gaming sweet spot 3440x1440. I would then purchase a 2nd Asus GTX 1080 card for SLI upgrade. I'm very happy with my PG278Q though. 😬😬😬

Then they'll bring out the HDR version and you'll want to wait for that..

That would pretty much be the perfect monitor though!

I am currently playing on 3440 x 1440 and the only reason i would upgrade to a 4k monitor would be a 34* 4k 144hz 21:9 - untill then.... not touching 4k.

That monitor won't be out for another 2-3 years and we'll have GPU's that could run that by then. The successor to Volta could be on the horizon and that could theoretically perform like Titan XP SLI, if Nvidia is able to continue to grow in the way that they have been.
