ASUS announce their ROG Swift PG27UQ 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR monitor

Hmm doesnt mention anything about being IPS/PLS or TN; unless quantum dot carries IPS/PLS with it.

But those the specs are mind-blowing, cant say that about the stand though - i personally dont like it, prefer the stand on my PG279Q

It's fine for gaming I guess. Text would be small though !

Having had a 27" 1440P and 27" 4K monitor side by side for some time, 27" is way too small for 4K.

The pixel density is nice but in games there's not really that much difference.

Let's recap

27" UHD 144Hz
Quantum Dot, HDR
G-Sync, ASUS ROG

Yeah. $2500 minimum price, I'd say.

Moreover, for a resolution so high you need 2 Titan XPs to run some games at full refresh rate. $5000 total.

I think I'm getting a 24" UHD monitor :/

I can definitely see pixels and aliasing on a 1080p 21.5" and there are no "decent" freesync 1440p monitors in the 23"-25" range

Someone who actually has personal experience—awesome. I'm not being sarcastic, by the way, even if it does sound like I am.

I'm really quite contented with my 1440p monitor. 27" is about all I can fit on my desk without ditching my printer or my speakers. That isn't happening so I think I'll be gaming on a 27" monitor for a while. Considering 4k 27" is likely too difficult to read and perform daily activities, I think 1440p is going to be the sweet spot for the next few years until something radical changes—or I get a bigger desk. ^_^

For 4K the reason I say you need at least 32" is because windows scaling sucks ass and if you don't use scaling then you will have a very hard time reading things on screen.

With 32" you don't really need scaling and it looks pretty good although having myself owned 1080P, 1440P, 1440P Ultrawide and 4K, I honestly can't see the allure of 4K as visually it's such a immensely minuscule improvement over 1440P but the horsepower required to run 4K is a hell of a lot more than 1440P.

16:9 1440P or 21:9 1440P are the gaming sweetspots.

If I do upgrade to a bigger desk, that's the monitor I'll be aiming at. While I haven't tested 4k/32" with no anti-aliasing against 2k/27" with anti-aliasing, I think I'd rather have the 2k option. Also, I don't know if I want a group big monitor in front of me. It just feels... glutinous.

I have the 34" PG348Q 1-2 feet from my face when gaming and it's immense, Couldn't go back to a 27" now but if I ever went 4K in the future It would have to be in the 40" range, Something like the Philips BDM4350UC 43" monitor so absolutely no Windows scaling would be needed at that res.

But the pixel density would be no better than 1440p/27" at that size. Is 40" gaming at 2 feet really that special? I'm trying to picture it and I'm sure it would be epic. But would it be worth it? That's what will hold me back, likely. Two years from now, 4k monitors and GPU's capable of handling it will be affordable. That's when I'll likely be upgrading again. We'll see, I guess.

I been holding off my new build until after this week to see what would be coming out. First build in lik e6 or 7 years. I am all about buying the PG348Q. Is it worth it? Its the only monitor I find appealing

Considering they just announced the 144Hz 4K monitor they will probably have a 144Hz 1440P Ultrawide on the horizon so I'd wait a month or 2.

But yes it's a fantastic monitor :)
