ASUS announce their ROG GTX 1080 Ti Poseidon

Only this is the fourth gen of this same card so I think they must sell.

Companies keep making things that sell poorly all the time. Like the Apple Trashcan Mac Pro.

We don't really know how it sells but have you seen many of these in rigs posted on the internet because I've never seen a single one on reddit in /r/workstation or /r/watercooling or /r/pcmasterrace, not a single one. I see tons of EK blocks and Asus Strix / EVGA FTW's though.

I know they sell well. My mate Rich works for Asus in Taiwan.

Wouldn't it be a bit stupid to keep making something you are losing money on? surely you would cut your losses like MSI have done with the Lightning right?

The UK is a *tiny* part of the PC market. You are forgetting all about the far east, and of course China who are an enormous buying audience. You don't see threads on the internet from them do you? Just because you can't see something it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

In fact Germany is pretty much the PC gaming capital of Europe, and again I doubt you spend much of your time on German forums reading posts in German.

Yeah well my friend Jerry is the CEO of Asus! /s

And no it wouldn't automatically be stupid to make something you lose money on. Many companies do that when they're trying to broaden the market for a product.

Actually I do visit asian sites including ocworkbench.com never seen the card on builds there either to be honest. You assume I'm British or something?

Then go ask him.

I can assure you they make them to make money.

Well you are in the UK meaning you won't get access to much of China's internet. Unless of course you are lying and it says UK as your location because you got it wrong.

BTW something people seem to be missing. This is a water cooled card that comes pre assembled with a full warranty. Considering you pretty much lose your warranty on 90% of GPUs as soon as you remove the cooler I would imagine that is a huge plus, and why this card actually sells.

Firstly, ocworkbench.com is a Singaporean site. I live in the UK doesn't mean I'm British.

Asia is more than just China and considering their average monthly wage is 1/6th what this card costs I doubt it's a hot seller there.

Please tell me where I said you were British.

You didn't. But you inferred I cannot read far-east Asian websites based on you assuming I'm British due to my location. They are all accessible on the world wide web my friend, the UK is not segmented into its own little network.

I frequent many Asian forums and tech websites as that is where a lot of the leaks come from due to their close proximity to the manufacturers.

Anyway this is getting way off topic so lets just leave it here okay, you think it sells well I disagree lets just leave it at that shall we?

Not to start an arguement here, but can't an VPN fix that for you though?...

You can access almost all Chinese websites even without a VPN. They use standard DNS and IP Addresses like any other website.

The great firewall mostly affects outbound connections from residential ISPs within China. But as I was mentioning before I mostly visit Singaporean and to a lesser extent Taiwanese sites.

I know it sells well because I have a friend at Asus. So no, I don't "think" it sells well.

I also did not assume you were British either. Next thing you'll play the race card/gay card etc. IE - you are trying to make something out of nothing.

It's not the UK that has the issue. Most of China's internet is not accessible to us nor is ours accessible to them. It's not a thing "our end" so to speak.

I really don't want to argue with you. Like I said, I have a friend at Asus (which I can prove) and I know this card sells well. Which let's face it makes sense because this is the fourth? iteration of it. Like I said, what company would continue throwing money at something that just doesn't sell (see also - Ares, Mars, Mars II etc. You can't buy those any more).

China are not a liberal, democratic country like the UK. So their internet is all very much controlled and you see what the govt wants you to see. That's also why they have their own version of Windows 10.

I doubt you could get around it tbh, and if I'm being honest nor would I want to.

Ed. Apols for DP.

So you say. Sounds ridiculous to me to be honest.

More ridiculousness. You made out like because I'm in the UK I cannot read asian websites, you mentioned both China and Far East. I don't know why you keep going on about China I already said I read Singaporean and Taiwanese sites and gave examples. You're the one making something out of nothing.

Again with China. Asia is bigger than China and China is if anything the least likely place for this card to be purchased due to economic situation of the average Chinese person. Internet cafes are king over there not blinged out enthusiast PC's.

I really don't want to argue with you.

And yet I gave you an out and you wanted to continue arguing?

Just looking at the EK shop and they have a section 'coming soon' for an "MLC" - Modular Liquid Cooling solution.

Essentially it's a rad/pump/res combo that you configure how you like. Basically a Predator but without the CPU block.

Would be absolutely perfect for this. Would be perfect for people like me with a 240 or 280 AIO that's working fine and plenty of room for another 120/240 AIO to run the GPU. No probs with VRM temps due to the fans either.

Yes you could sell your AIO or move it to another rig. Yes you could spend $700+ and go full loop - but currently there's nothing really placed between full loop and AIO/Air setups.

What AlienALX said is a good point. You are getting a card that is watercoolable and still falling under the guarantee.

I still stand by the fact there is not much of a temperature difference going with a custom WB from EK etc. So it's not all that bad. Definately not for me though. I always prefer FE cards with a low profile WB on them.

I guess this is the only hybrid on the market which is why they will try to sell it at a premium over others like EVGA who sell their hydrocool (watercool only). But the fact they have made this since the 780Generation means they are making money from it. It makes no sense to sell a GPU like this is it was a loss of revenue with the assumption they are broadening their market/products/ventures when they are already so successful in these areas.

I just want to see the results and then we will see who has the king of the hill GPU.

Without wanting to stoke the fire again.. There is hardly any difference between water blocks. Think about it like this, when do you ever see water block reviews and which ones are the best? You don't, because they are never reviewed. Mostly because they used to be, but they were all so similar it was a complete and total waste of time.

To bolster my point read through my Dianoga thread and look at the enormous temp drop I achieved by going from the stock GTX 950 cooler to a tiny little water block that only cooled the GPU core. It cost me £16, something mental like a 30c drop and got me to 1600mhz.

You don't even see CPU water blocks reviewed. So there is no "best" CPU block that you know is better than the others you do it all based on looks.

And jet plates? I can also debunk that myth. My EK Supreme came with the jet plates and they made absolutely no difference.

I know, I agree with you. Watercooling has improved so much now that it is purely a case of aesthetics. If you want to talk delta temps etc, then it comes down to fans and how you configure them. Rads perform the same give or take a degree or two and compare apples to apples e.g. EK 480 vs Darkside 480 and so on.

EK CPU block when they redesigned their EVO glorified their innovative improvement which even they claimed was "up to" 2C cooler. Luckily new designs don't get a premium slapped on them and come at the same cost of the product they usually replace.

From my POV I love watercooling, mainly because of the looks not performance. I know what I can expect from my setup so I aim for silence over low temps. After all, if I can make a system with 0 noise but CPU hits 60C thats so damn far within the threshold im satisfied.
