I really wonder what that single ram slot is for near the edge, it... kinda stands out weirdly, other then that it is a great looking board.

If I remember correctly it's for new RAM style M.2 SSD's

What an odd move making a gaming oriented motherboard for a CPU that's clearly meant for number crushing. Would any of you even consider buying this for gaming mostly?

Well the rampage extreme is very Gaming board as for looks. I suppose that single thread it will be like most AMD cpus - weak and in multi it will be more like the 1800x.

Thus for gaming weak/ok and for profesional use great.

It's single thread performance is not as bad as people think. It's come a long way...
