Ubisoft desperately needs a success, and Assassin's Creed Shadows' delay proves it.

why does delaying a game to get it right show desperation?
Mosts game we have had to be frustrated with over delays have turned into success. Witcher III, GTA V, CP2077.
Its not like they have had to go back to formula with disasters like Skull n Bones, which I actually do enjoy, its just end game is lacking.
It won't affect it because it's already a hard sell. You don't give away free expansion, get rid of monetization and decide to launch on Steam on day one if you're confident in your pre-order numbers.I don't think it'll affect it much. They are pretty different games.
Maybe the delay is in relation to the backlash from Outlaws and the negative press this game has gotten in regards to the Japanese culture being disrespected. Ubisoft is in a bad position right now. Their stocks are the lowest they've been in a long time. They are receiving a lot of negative press and criticism.
A Japanese lady friend of mine said in relation to this -
"I'm sick and tired of westerners perverting my culture and countries history for their own agendas"
And she's right, The west thinks it has a right to do whatever it wants with other peoples cultures, Sooner or later that's going to come back to bite it in its rear end.
I find the bold ironic because they portray westerners as generally stupid and clueless. I think your friend should look at the great representation that is Ghost of Tshumia.
Regardless I don't know anything about the games poor Japanese showing, won't comment on it. Just figured I'd mention the counter point.
Oh yeah, there's hypocrisy on all fronts. That's why messaging in these things is so silly to me. It makes no sense. We're all imperfect people that make mistakes, so why throw shade or act unkindly to others? Why take a high moral stance when you're just as fallible? This is not obviously a question directed at you; it's the people on X or at Disney or wherever there's an agenda of judgement. People point fingers at others that are pointing right back at them. It's a cycle of pride and arrogance. We all make mistakes so why not learn to be patient and treat people as you would want them to treat you. If they don't, that's on them. Walk away. Again, this is not directed at you; just a thing I've noticed.

Some people speculated that pre-orders are very low. And Ubisoft's latest moves seem to support that theory.
Well, I have always questioned the mentality of people "pre-ordering" digital copies. I mean, are they scared they will miraculously run out of digital downloads?
Pre-orders of non physical products has been in decline, left, right and centre, with everything, not just games, as the general population finally catch on to this pointlessness. Develops try to bait you in with minimal cosmetic items making you feel more prestigious over others, but its still the same game in the end.
I think pre-order speculation will always be considered low whenever there is nothing physical to receive. Its not like a car where they will only make 30,000 in the first 6months forcing you to wait if you fail to get on the list.
The only thing I could see, that would drive pre-orders upwards, would be a cost incentive. Pre-order/become early adopter and pay XXX now, or wait for release and pay full price. Now that is something that I get into, if I knew the end product would be to my liking with or without unoptimisations.
