Artifacts?

So today I received my GTX 570 (from Ebay) in the mail, and after doing some cable management and installing my new card, I decided to run some 3DMark 11. After about 2 minutes of very smooth performance, some artifacts started to show up on screen. They went away, but after another minute, bright pink artifacts showed up and my entire screen froze, and I had to reboot my pc. The same thing happened when I tried to run Skyrim. I opened up my case when i was running 3DMark again, and my card felt very hot. The same thing happened with 3DMark, and i went to EVGA Precision and saw my fan speeds were very low. I turned the speeds up to 55% (It was on auto, but was staying at low speeds even when under load.) So could my card running hot (possible overheating) cause it to have artifacts, or is my card faulty?

Thanks

was it used or refurbed from eBay ???

these are the most common causes of failure

the only things i buy from fleabay are things that can easily be replaced, and do not cost the earth!!!

it seems you have bought a FUBAR'd card

it was used and sold by a trusted Ebay seller. It seems to be running perfectly fine with the fans turned up.

it may be worth replacing the TIM and thermal pads on the GPU. (simple job)

as, it seems it may be a cooling issue ?

As a matter of fact, i simply went to NVidia control pannel and set all settings to factory default and my troubles went away. Skyrim ran smoothly, 3DMark 11 went fine, (score of P5585), and I'm happy. Maybe the voltage was changed when I received it, but there was no sign of artifacts in anything that I ran.
