NPT & BSP completely different. It's either NPT or BSP - can't be both. As it's a Panworld pump natively made for the american market, and the fact that AquaXtreme brand name is actually D-Tek, and going off the fittings D-Tek used to use back in the era of the AQX50Z, I'd say it's NPT.

I can only tell you that the company I work for purchases pumps with 1/2" NPT threads and the engineers use BSPT fittings on them - have done for 25 yrs with no problem.
I like to understand how they are different, help me get one over on the know it all fitters at our place
Ok I have consulted my Presto Engineers handbook and the NPT threads are properly known as American National Taper Pipe Thread and have an included angle of 60 degrees whereas BSPP/BSPT threads have an included angle of 55 degrees. Both standards use the same thread nomenclature in terms of the number of threads per inch (TPI). 1/2" NPT and 1/2" BSPT threads both have 14 TPI so that is why both could probably be used mav. You just wouldn't get a good seal if you used BSPT fittings because of the included angle of the thread being different. For those that dont know what the included angle is it is the angle that the sides of the thread form.
I have just had a quick look at the thread on the pump and it is definately tapered, I cannot say how much it tapers - the handbook doesn't give details for NPT - but the BSPT thread tapers at 1 in 16 on the dia. One would have to assume that the taper on NPT threads is similar because otherwise the BSPT fittings would fit too sloppily without the use of a lot of PTFE tape.
