Acrylic came so I had a go at making the base plate which all the parts will sit on.
Used my dremel to cut out parts which prevented it from laying flat on the floor.
Went well until it ran out of power (Battery powered dremels are horrendous) then I used the file to tidy up edges and reduce it to final size to fit well in the base of the NES.
As you can see it wouldn't sit flat, if I ever make a NES 2.0; I'm going to have this laser cut and just generally work on the internal appearance more. With this current build I plan to make it functional with the IO at the rear and nothing else on the sides but not too fussed about internals, just keep it fairly tidy by doing some cable management etc nothing fancy unlike ungreedy's build where he even sleeved the wires etc.. I'm not after that with this build.
Obviously I'll need to cut the plate so the PSU does not sit on it, or see if I can shave the thickness where the psu will be located enough for the lid to close properly. I plan to use motherboard standoffs but I think when I come to attaching those I'll heat up the plate using a soldering iron and just push them.
It's parts like these where the file really was invaluable as it allowed me to make it fit perfectly. Like I said, a laser cut plate would be so nice to have instead.
I'll epoxy the plate to the NES once it's all finished then I'll decide what to do about the huge T cut out, may use some filler or something. If I do that I'd have to spray it but that would require me getting colour matched paint and that will just cost alot so I'll decide what I do about that later on. May just leave it - You won't be able to see it anyway..
Maybe I'll have the motherboard fitted by this weekend fingers crossed!
