That's the kind of Mac that makes hardcore PC users hover their mouse over the "Buy Now" button :D hehe

LOL, I would certainly hover over the BIN on that puppy

BUT

always in the back of my mind would be how would I explain yet another PC purchase to the Wife...

The RAM used in this system is so gangsta that each stick has its own processor onboard requiring a good sized heatsink... Look at the heatspreaders on the RAM in this beast:

RAM must be installed in pairs on the new riser cards. Each Mac Pro comes with two riser cards. Note the oversized heat sinks for the new RAM. Each RAM stick has a small processor which generates a considerable amount of heat.

Here's a great article where PowerMax takes apart the entire rig and shows ya whats up on the inside:

There's also some other good dissection articles as well, they're so well made on the inside... It even has a custom modular PSU :)

The one thing that dissapoints me only a tad is that they decided to switch from watercooling to air cooling, but the heatsinks they use look more than substantial for these Xeons. I would imagine that they don't produce near the amount of heat that the G5's did, thus the departure from watercooling.

Heck yea! Slap Windows Server 2003 on that beast and lett'er rip! :D

Lol, that would be the stupidest thing to do. Spend your money on that awesome thing and put a

ty OS on it such as Windows Server 2003. Mac OS Server would be a great idea along with a linux or unix distro.

OS X server is awesome, thought about putting it on the MBP for a while, rofl... Then i realized that it wouldn't be like going from XP to 2k3 (the difference between

and stability). As OS X is already uber stable :)

Ya know - OSX is nice. But the main reason it's so damn stable is that there's it only a certain amount of hardware you can put in it and works.

XP aint all that bad imo. Just wish I could be bothered to integrate SP2 into a disc :D

Anyway - this is an awesome machine, but guarantee it will be outdone by january/february or early next year - whereas Apple will keep selling it as a top-line rig :)

But that's also where Apple has done it the right way... Because of the fact not all hardware is compatible means that there's less chance for it to cause any stability within the OS. Yet there's all of the necessary hardware available for it to complete any tasks you can think of.

I got

You mean intergrate sp2 into a boot disc? or seperate cd?

I would give my left arm for that damn thing!

I also have yet to have OS X lock up on me....I have loved it ever since I have switched to Mac. I love my MacBook.
