Going to make a dedicated thread for this topic, as Computex currently has me too time constrained to get something up on this in a more timely manner.

Thank you NeverBackDown for bringing this to my attention over on the Quick News Thread.

Good job Apple. Turning one reason to not get a Mac into an even bigger reason. Apple is deprecating OpenGL and OpenCL support. Urges everybody to use Metal.

This means there are no longer any cross platform graphics APIs for the big 3. Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

This is basically there own version of Dx12.

They keep shooting themselves in the foot, First getting rid of the audio jack, Then slowing peoples phones down to "preserve battery life" and now this, Apple are going down a route that is very anti consumer.

Although people two halves short of a full brain will understand this. Apple fans will defend it to hell and back because "it's Apple"

Even outside of games removing OpenCL support will hurt for rendering and the like. Which Apple DOES do a lot of with since so many people use it for video editing. Just a bad move.

Do you know the real problem? Many many and even many more people, devs and companies are following them!!!
Apple gets rid of the headphone jack -> other manufacturers start doing that, too!
Apple says "Begin transition to Metal" -> people will obey...

Fortunately the Chinese have not read the script and in years to come will put Apple out of business.

I am old enough to remember the British motorcycle industry and what the innovating Japanese did to it.
