AOpen i975Xa

Bad news all round I suspect.

HAving Said that Conroe chips are going to be very well priced.

It's funny how the consumer never wins (well it's not really) - you save versus AMD on the CPU, then get crucified on the price of the motherboard :(

yep :(

Probably because the aopen chipsets are hightly priced.

another scam by intel

Mav, dont you have any contacts you could infulence people ;)

AOpen have suddenly learned how to charge, aint they?!

Lets keep our fingers crossed for offerings from other makers, hopefully with lower prices and similar spec.

I`m assuming the memory controllers are still on the chipset for Intel, so overclocking and memory bandwidth/performance are much more mobo dependent?

i am not happy- having 2 cpus buring holes in my pocket.

was gutted to find that conroe wont boot on my i975 mobo :( the 975 chipset will need a revision 2 to work em - so there goes my original upgrade path.... :(

Thanks for the heads up, sorry to hear that your plans are scuppered.

My advice - Sell it before everyone else catches on and the price drops through the floor!!

lol id love to just sell it, but iv only just bought it - and revision 2 mobos wont be out until june apparently - i need something to run in the mean time.... will just mean I have to upgrade more when the time comes :(

I'm going to sell my Aopen i915GMm-HFS R2 and Dothan ready to upgrade for a Duo or Conroe. :)

Just out of interest, does anybody know the architectural difference between the Duo and Conroe?

Essentially the differences are:

Higher FSB

64-bit compatability (Yonah is 32bit only)

Cache (4MB in Conroe)

Socket (LGA775 Vs Skt 479)

Maybe more but thats the 'in and outs' so to speak.

Cheers

Mav

I assume this means it's probably worth waiting for the Conroe, as it seems to be superior in just about everyway...

By June I would have thought AMD would have something to match Intel.

But there's also the graphics side to think about, will the new Conroe boards be compatible with CrossFire and SLI?

I think I'll be investing in a new system in August, so I'll just have to wait and see which system I'll be going with! :)

The guy that bought my Yonah and Aopen bord has been playing with it a ot he said in his last e-mail. Had it fro mthe stock 2.16Ghz all the way to 2.8Ghz and it still had lots to give, temps being stupidly low still. He is on air but water will be out he said when he hits the 3GHZ and above which i beleive he will and so will others

Conroe has a few mobos out for testing on. Awating mine any day now from the ex as she can request them through her job

I'm now torn between Intel and AMD as i just got my Opty rig bar a SLI GFX so far

Can't be right can it? Is June the release date for Conroe then? I thought it was May?
