AOC Unveils Curved AGON 3 G-Sync and FreeSync 2 HDR Gaming Monitors

Disappointing it's only 400 nits for the Freesync version. Definitely not nearly enough to show much if any difference. I personally feel like 600nits is the minimum for HDR.
 
TBH HDR 400 shouldn't be a thing as it's barely even good enough and even still most monitors don't even meet the standard anyway when they're tested, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's really just standard
 
It's only use is to be able to have a wide color range and the ability to display 10 bit color. However since 400 nits is not bright enough it often ends up making the final images darker as the TV struggles to display the correct amount of contrast needed to differentiate colors. At least from my experience with 400 nit and lower displays. But I guess at least for SDR content the wide color range on modern displays is still noticeably better than older displays.

Yes very true, also with these being curved displays the backlight uniformity is also going to be an issue
 
So as the FreeSync one will most likely fall under the GSync Compatible category, it should still work just fine while being cheaper and having more versatile inputs...
Why would anyone buy the GSync then? For the red stand??

It'll probably have higher nit output and color reproduction and since most people use Nvidia most people are biased towards them
 
The FreeSync2 model has a centre peak brightness of 450 nits, the GSync monitor only has 400 nits marked, technically the GSync model doesn't have to be held to as high a standard with regards to HDR and no aspect of the HDR on the GSync model is validated by NVidia, but the FreeSync2 panel has to be validated for low latency HDR & minimum brightness by AMD iirc. The GSync model will only go under colour testing by NVidia(The only difference between GSync and GSync compatible is amount of testing according to them).

Yep, but that doesn't really mean anything to an end user when the off-the-shelf DisplayPort controllers most displays use already has silicon in it using a mature well optimised & decade old feature of DP protocols to carry out the same task, probably while using less power.
