OK so I know its not a camera forum but I thought I'd ask as we have such a varied, knowledgeable community here. The last thing I asked about here ended up with me buying an AWESOME case for my S3 which I have been more the pleased with, see here.

Im off skiing in a few weeks and was looking for a small, robust camera I could take with me. I need it to be able to do a bit of film as well as take a picture. Optical zoom would be good as well as there are a fair amount of distance involved with skiing. I saw a camera in a shop a while back when I was booking a kayaking holiday to France that could work underwater, but cant remember what it is for the life of me.

If you guys have an idea's that would be great.

i have:

  • a nikon d7000 (upgraded from a d3100)
  • a plephora of lens (more than i actually need)
  • many 'full' filter sets (for each thread sizes)
  • studio equipment (tents; backdrops; continuous lighting; strobes; gels; etc...)
  • digiscoping gear (for deep-skying and wildlife)
i also have a coolpix s9200 for quickies ;)

manufacturers claiming that certain cameras are 'waterproof' can be misleading. this means that they can withstand moderate rain-splashes, but not for a prolonged period.

throwing buckets of water on a camera will kill it :(

(it was/is the same for watches.... unless the gadget in question can survive several atmospherics, it is not waterproof BUT splashproof)

BEWARE!

Hi guys, just to let you know that I went with a Pentax WG-2 GPS in the end. It seems to do everything I need it to do and at a reasonable price as well. The equivalent Olympus was a fair bit more and people weren't giving it the best reviews. It also looks like a transformers head which is cool (if your childish like me).
