So my AV is expiring tomorrow and don't have the funds to renew it really.

Anybody have any experience for with free AVs? Which is the best, most user friendly, etc. Or even if it has excessive promotion notifications?

I am using malwayrebytes as a secondary layer so got that part covered:)

Edit 2: just to clear things up I'm asking for your experiences with Free AV suites. This is for me and people I know who are the typical non tech savvy individuals.

What OS are you on fella?
I dont have any AV on my linux as its not really needed
Windows 10 been using only malwarebytes and windows defender and never any issues.
I think the days of paying for AV are done now

On Windows 10. Updated OP incase it's missed.

It's still needed. Maybe not a paid one, but you definitely need AV still.

defender is well up to the job to not need much else tbh

If you really need one then AVG or Avast do free versions that are good
 
I should mention defender is okay at best. Reason being most people have no clue how to use the internet safely. This isn't just for me but it's for multiple devices. I'm mostly interested in a suite that is better than Defender (which is many) but something that isn't intrusive.

I'm asking for your experiences. Not what you use. I thought I was clear about that but I guess not, sorry about that
 
I use comodo internet security for years, and i am very happy with it. You can use only antivirus if you do not want firewall. I recommend it to everyone. Avast, and Bitdefender free versions have good reviews.
 
Comodo? Interesting. I don't know anyone who's used that before

Would you consider it unobstructive for the average user? Like poop ads and etc? It can handle everything on its own in "silent" mode or something?
 
C.O.M.O.D.O isn't bad to be fair I used to use it, it's more an install and forget system unlike Avast or AVG which will pester you after a while with updates or pay to continue nonsense. But like others have said I simply don't use one anymore just Malwarebytes once a month for a quick system checkup.

I have Avast on my stepdads rig as he's forever finding interesting infections and malware, god knows where or what he's clicking on but if his rig was a horse I'd shoot it at times.
 
If you have to use a freebie then Avast is probably still the way to go I have it on my phone it can be a bit of a pest with its notification but all in all doesn't really impact performance much
 
Avast in silent mode is pretty good, and Antivir wasn't bad either. Like others most of what I do other than gaming is on linux, Solus specifically. I do use Clam there, because while the linux partition isn't all that vulnerable, almost everyone I interact with is on windows, so I like to be certain that i am not a vector. After the new build is active as my main rig, I am going to play around with running Win10 in a VM within Solus, and run a fresh image every time I reboot. hard to get a more persistent and secure solution.
 
Yeah I wish I had a spare PC for Linux but being in school and stuff everything is windows based so it's far to much work to get everything in order.

It is smart in "silent" mode, but i like when it asks me everything.
 
Hi Folks! if you are looking free Antivirus software for your PC or Laptop and you are using Windows OS operating system than I will suggest you use Windows Defender. I'm using for 2 years still I'm using it never got any issue about it and also working perfectly for me. You will get this antivirus software by default on windows 8 and 10.
