Anti-virus program ??

at the moment i have mcafee 8-in-1 2007 protection and it sucks up RAM and it is so slow its unbearable :o :( and for my new PC (arriving Sunday) i do not want to have slow performance AT ALL :D

so what antivirus/firewall programs are you lot using. im looking for something thats quick and has a good defense (dont need to be too amazing as i do spyware cleans and sys clean template scans etc every so often during the month) norton and mcafee id guess have the best protection but slow the computer down a lot lol .. what do you lot suggest ?
 
On my gaming rig(this one) I have no protection what so ever.. :)

Only the Windows Firewall and a hardware firewall on the router.. other than that nothing.

I trust windows and the websites I go on enough to not need any kind of Anti-Virus.

And god it rocks, First off.. my system idles at 80mb of ram.. which means about 3000mb for gaming,

-Gets undercover as peeps say I have viruses- LOLZ :D

Risk a little gain alot!
 
I'm supposed to have an anti virus system to access my uni network. I had AVG free edition thinger as always but I unistalled it a while back and then didn't bother putting it back on with vista. I don't feel a need for it if your careful with browsing, gone are the days where I'll download pr0n loaders and things that ruin systems. I'm sure if I did a virus check nothing would come up as my system is right now.
 
well i was thinking about going with windows but i will be doing a bit of surfing on the web as well so i need that tiny bit extra although i suppose doing occasional scans will help keep it clean :)
 
Free ones are ok, but if you have a bit of dosh £30 spare then NOD 32 is what I use as i value my data and photos that I have on my system (Backups not withstanding) as I commute and only see the kids on the weekend, I like to have the protection and piece of mind that this affords me.

If you are in UNI just don't go out on friday and hey presto at least £30 available (feign an illness) :p

even a quiet night out is :-

6x pints £15 depends on pub

3x shots £6

kebab £3-6

bus home after a night of passion £3

failing the night of passion breakfst after waking up in a shop doorway £3 but this means you have to multiply the first 2 points by at least 2. ;)
 
none, no crappy av hogging up the memory and cpu cycles to just sit there.. and.. well.. just sit and hog cpu cycles and ram.

i've not had one since i got my pc, tried one once.. nothing but trouble ending in a format, ever since i haven't bothered and have NEVER had a problem :)

common sense is the best anti-virus you can get mate

and a hardware firewall on the router is always nice.. everything else is just a waste of your precious processor's life
 
NOD32, last virus scanner you'll ever need. If you don't fancy NOD32 for whatever reason or another Kaspersky makes my second favorite.

Another vote for NOD32. It's got one of the smallest memory footprints out of all the AV products and it's a fave among gamers.

Respect to the guys that go bareback, but don't forget all it takes is for a mate to bring around a USB key with some stuff on it, or an accidental mistyping of a web address and ur PC could be infected.

You have a good point. :)

But I have AV on my other PCs. just not my games machine.

I let nobody touch the games machine other than me.. I R GEEK... :p

Although i use ZA Security suite. Ive never had anything major enough for it's virus combating bit to kick in. Just monitoring programs net access really :-/.

me Jimbo - LM-M.F-AO! Sometimes you kill me :D

Bareback is too risky these days with the rise of nasty viruses, all it takes is for you to come back home late one night and make one drunken mistake and it's game over!

I use Kaspersky as it was free with my mobo - it rocks though. XP idles at ~180mb so it must have a small mem usage.
 
i have a AV program on my computer as a back up but i dont leave it running whilest gameing

though it is always up to date
