Antec showcases triple stack CPU cooler

Jesus, can you imagine dropping your case? That's A LOT of weight on the socket right there.. surely that would give uneven pressure?

Why would you drop your case? When dropping a case I would say that the pressure on the socket is one of the least worrysome problems

Accidents happen? Even just moving it about with that much hanging off the socket would make me nervous..

When I first saw the Thors Hammer cooler I thought precisely the same thing. It's cringe worthy as hell.. also with CPUs getting ever more energy efficient and lower TDP what's with all the monster coolers.

I wouldn't call X99 fully efficient yet. 130w yo

With CPU's now the issue is overloading the IHS.

6700K can be fine up to a point then 0.025v more and its over 100c - thats just down to the IHS not being able to dissipate the heat quick enough. Thats the time if you NEED those volts you have to lap/delid

How hard can it be to make a tiny mod so the cooler can "Hang" from the top of the case?

Not very i Think.

I miss the early AMD days where we had bare dies. IHS's have their place.. and they make installation easier, but I'd prefer to have a bare CPU die and a shim any day.

Not liking that design, Looks dodgy.

Would prefer a Noctua NH-D15 or BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3 for air cooling.

I will delid every chance I get. Even it is just a 2C drop in Temp.

Get modding fella ;) sure it'd be well received.

Well, while i do have a decent size air cooler (Nocatua D14) my case just sits on the floor up against a wall and is quite protected so no need. That cooler spent 5 years in my old pc, and i could not detect any issues when dismanteling it a few months ago. So it's back in business now on a 6700K. Works fine still.

Haha, Peace of mind. I would be more worried about the the big weight hanging off the board than a pump from an AIO or loop failing. There are plenty of ways to safeguard against pump failiure and the CPU will protect itself anyways. Cant really stop the weight from riipping the heart out of the board though. Zipties?
