Android Max Apps Size limit Increased!

This is all fantastic news for all you Android programmers! Remember when the App size limit was smaller the 50MB? Remember when they increased it to 50MB? Well, get ready for the next increase.

Google has no unleashed the beast! The App size limit is now 4GB! We should hopefully be seeing some fantastic applications due to this increase.

Any developer that can push 4GB worth of software is a maniac. Obviously the code is going to take a VERY SMALL amount of space, surely applications and games do not require this much space for materials such as images, videos etc? Although this is obviously not a bad thing, it could also be used to hide other malicious code. I'm sure they have automatic software for checking code, if they do it personally, good luck to them.

To put it this way, the code for Call of Duty 4 would consist of 30Mb.

It's mainly for games I think. Textures and all that. With these Quad Core tablets out we cannot ignore their ability to play high-end games.

It's probably future proofing as well.

Also, there's the new resolutions on tablets and phones to take into account - along with the new levels of texturing; details; anti-aliasing; anisotropic filtering and others on mobile devices.

In fact...there are already apps on the Apple Store over 150MB, and I think I slightly recall downloading an app with a filesize of 260MB or so onto my iPad.

Rage HD for the iPad/iPhone 4 is 1.19GB. I think that's the largest game I have installed ATM.
