Android - Help with rooting...and stuff.

Hello. I've just been given an old HTC Desire to play with. I would like to root it and do all of that good stuff.

Firstly I would like to install stock android on the very latest version possible. So if somebody could explain that, I'd appreciate it.

Secondly I would like to hear what people think I should do to it. Custom roms, launchers... All that sort of stuff.

I have zero technical kinda knowledge with Android, i've only ever used a friends or whatever. As such i haven't had a "proper" play, so I'm open to all suggestions.

Cheers,
Chris.

I would get yourself over to XDA developers mate :) Those guys will sort you out with absolutely everything about android rooting, ROMS, kernels. Everything :)

Back when I had a HTC Desire I ran it at 1.166Ghz (Stock 1Ghz), just for LoLz. Might be a place to start. :)

Currently running my HTC One X at 1.6Ghz on all cores (up from 1.2Ghz) with a voltage bump, so if you need some help with setting up SetCPU profile or whatever, I could give you a few pointers. apart from that, XDA Devs all the way.

That sounds like something i'd like to do iBeInspired XD

Having trouble here with the revolutionary rooting tool.
I gave up trying to get it to work in Windows. I've had much more success in Linux, however i get stuck at "waiting for fastboot".

I cant seem to be able to enable it as everywhere says i go settings/power... But i don't have a "power" option in my settings app :/

Any ideas?

Yeah i just flashed my HTC Desire with 4.2.2 Jelly bean and it's much better!
The phone still isn't great though :/

But yeah, i had a guy explain everything to me. He was really helpful.
