AndreYang found a golden chip and has beaten the old cpu-z WR with 31 MHz using only liquid nitrogen to cool the cpu

nice oc lol 1.992 volts but did notice it was only on 2 cores/threads cant recall what the other was off the top of my head

The first FX-8150 WR was also done with 2 cores enabled but with LHe and higher cpu vcore.

Andre found a much better chip.

Hi,

While a staggering result, does anyone else feel this doesn't really count? I mean, if I asked to be a member of the 6ghz club on here (if such a thing formally exists) but then said I'd actually disabled parts of my CPU to make it easier...well, I'd likely be taken less than seriously.

I love to read about the extreme overclocks people have achieved using more exotic cooling, but when they've had to tamper with the CPU to get the headline result - well, it doesn't paint a good pictures of said CPU for normal overclocking does it?

Let's see an extreme overclock with a fully functioning CPU shall we?

Oh, a funny thought, with our CPU's all having their full compliment of cores enabled, doubtless we'd easliy beat this guys scores in a whole load of benchmarks...

I have to agree with this. It sort of feels like a cheat overclock, id much prefer a fully enabled cpu running atleast 6ghz and see how much you can really get out of it before it either dies or is unstable to boot.

it is a staggering feat that he has done here and nothing you can say about it takes away that fact.

it is the fastest any cpu has ever gone, you think it matters how many cores it was running....

Well yeah, you dont see people disabling cores on the intel chips either, they turn of hyper threading but thats not the same as ht doesnt fuction like actual cores. I just find it a bit silly that a 8 core cpu is turned into a dual core just to get higher clocks, the cpu is marketed as an octa core, then use it for what it actually is.

But thats just my opinion.

huh? i turn off cores on my cpu when benching to keep the heat down.. also turn off ht.

past high frequency wr, if multicore... always had cores turned off. It's actually very common when benching lol... It's not silly i don't think, nor is it cheating. Perfectly within decorum of what he was doing

btw that's not the WR anymore either

chew and mr yang there have higher scores they haven't submitted yet

Disabling cores seems fair enough. If one core will hit the higher clocks, then it seems fair enough to disable the rest. Especially given that the old world records used to be done on old P4 era celerons, and they were most definitely single cored.
