As long as it doesnt cost a similar amount of dough for similar speed compared to into its fine. Better to just work up to it.
I can't imagine AMD retailing a CPU that has the same performance as an Intel one at much less than the Intel one. If I could buy an AMD 4 core 8 thread CPU that benchmarks the same as my Xeon E3-1231 v3 for around the same price I'd be pretty damn pleased. I don't see why AMD has to be significantly cheaper to be competitive, just slightly cheaper (say 5%) than the equivalent Intel offering would be more than enough.
Hope they come out with something cheap that will be a good replacement for my 2500k, it's get on in years abit
Ive still got an old 2600k on an Extreme IV - Z (or whatever its called). Still going strong at 4.9Ghz ~1.37v (offset). I dare say its still more than capable of driving the latest tech.
That 2500k OC'd? Sandys were the best.
I'm not knocking my little old cpu it was running at 4.7Ghz 1.34v but it's time for a change, I've had the upgrade itch for far to long

What you reckon you'd upgrade to, if I may ask?![]()
Dont recall stating that need to be significantly cheaper, at least read what you quote.
If a buyer has to chooses between either a hypothetical i9 9999k and an AMD CPU that performs the same and costs the same if not maybe a few $ (or w/e) less, lets say $400 for the Intel and $390 or so for the AMD. What do you think they will choose?
If it was something like 350-380, that would provide more incentive. Of couse then there is brand image etc etc, so there is no convincing some (or at least difficulty).
AMD arent magically going to be on par with Intel no matter how you Dice it. They have been at it for much longer and have much more experience as well as a more advanced process etc. Intel may have been dragging their feed with on the CPU side lately in favour of better iGPU performance, however thats not going to make roughly 4 years worth of R&D dissapear. Even when Intel shifted focus, their budget was much higher than AMDs (albeit Money and talent isnt going to scale 100%..).
