That's a shame. But if the prices are right for the 8 cores then it could still be fine and dandy.

Not surprised considering its built on blocks of 4. I never suspected 6 core chips. It's great though that the minimum core count is 4. We need to move on from dual core chips. It's 2017.

That's true, I was expecting a 6 core version to be like Phenom, 8 core with 2 cores disabled.

Not sure about that.... Basically the 4 core will compete with the I5 and the 4c 8t will compete with the I7 and then the 8c 8t will probably compete with the hex core Intel (5820k etc) and so on.
I have never tried my 8c 16t Xeon with HT disabled. Maybe if I can be bothered later I will visit bios, disable HT and see how it stacks up against having HT enabled.
I would imagine it would be close. Like 8c 8t vs 6 core HT. So the vanilla 8 will probably go up against the 6c 12t Intels
I haven't had anything but a quad core or better since they became a thing so means nothing to me. the first computer I built was an IBM clone 386 back in about 1988 for my girlfriends dad. so I've seen AMD rise to the top a couple of times.. I've used mainly Intel since 2009ish when they launched the I7, so I'm ready to see them swap places again..

Not going to be problem if the 8c/8t is the same price as the 6 core Intel. More cores for less money. That's a win in AMD's eyes.

Unless Intel's 6c/12t performs on par with AMD's 8c/8t, which is quite likely. That doesn't interest me personally.

So the 8 cores CPU's will remain unattainable to the masses who have 7700K-type budgets as their maximum. That in turn means that AMD's 4c/8t CPU will be in direct competition to the 7700K and we're basically in the same position we were before RyZen: 4 cores with 8 threads being the only 'budget' orientated enthusiast package.

Go for profit margins for the top end. Makes sense. It's what they should be doing in order to make ROI and Zen worthwhile. Only helps them be more competitive in the future.
Nothing wrong with 4 cores. So long as it replaces 2

As long as the 8 threads don't increase the price to that of an i7-7700K.

They only have 4 cores and 8 cores. They need to cover the whole range of the market, it's likely it will. If it performs better it should cost the same. They need to make money off of Zen in order for it to be a success. If it sells like crazy and they barely make profit, it's going to hurt them.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Economically for AMD it might somewhat make sense, but it bellies the Intel hatred from guys AlienATX who seem to feel we've been cheated on by performance. If AMD only matches Intel, would that not make AMD just as liable for harsh criticism? I guess we should buy neither just to spite them, right?
