AMD's RX 500 series GPUs are rumoured to launch on April 18th

Just an fyi but you said not a rebadged rx400 cpu. And at caps and cream they said its going tobe known as vega not a 500 series etc.

This really goes into what the difference between a rebadge and refresh, a rebadge has no design changes and a refresh had process changes and increase performance/efficiency.

No what i meant is you said cpu instead of gpu

I'm really interested to see how power they've managed to squeeze out of Polaris. Have the core clocks been announced yet? I wonder whether it could be near 1400Mhz. That would be a nice boost over the RX 480.

Wait now I am confused. So this is not Vega, right? those cores don't look to be packing any HBM.

God how I hate this rebrand stuff! Not to mention that 11 performs less than 10?!? WTF AMD?!?! This is so stupid.

Typo fixed

No idea, it is hard to know how much AMD has been able to squeeze out of Polaris and 14nm. Hopefully, they will be able to get these GPUs into mobile friendly TDP ranges for the notebook market, as I would love to see AMD in gaming notebooks again.

It is what happens when you take an internal project name into the consumer space. The GPUs are made in the order they are produced, not in order of power. IE if AMD made a new Polaris GPU it would be called Polaris 12.

AMD are in the habit of taking project names into the actual product naming scheme, like changing Zen to Ryzen and making Vega GPUs into the RX Vega series.

makes you wonder what raven ridge is going tobe called, if the cpu zen is ryzen, am just gonna called it now, raven ridge, FLYZEN :P

TBH AMD's marketing strategy if you can call it that is stupid! They are taking so long that market share is still flowing very heavily in Nvidia's favor, they should be rushing to get their products out earlier not carrying on like a bunch of old moles and dragging their feet just because

I'd have to agree. Zen feels like it's old news before it was even out, despite how good it actually is. I wonder if AMD had to release details to the market early to raise investor confidence?

Well the problem is in tech terms a couple of months is like years as tech changes so rapidly nowadays and people have been taught the I want it now mentality, and if you can't supply something when someone else can then you can kiss your market share goodbye, it's only the true diehards who will wait for stuff or people with a lot of money who don't care and can swap and change at a whim and to keep plodding along as always when you are struggling financially is just plain mindbogglingly stupid IMHO
