AMD's Radeon Vega Frontier Edition's "game mode" has no effect on performance

And they stated 1080ti performance. But then again. It could still happen. :D:cool:

No it can't. Too reasons to list here so I recommend watching the newest PCPER stream where they discuss it in detail, and far better than I ever could. Check for the info for the time stamp (5:10):

But the thing is, the card needs to be launched or else people will just stop waiting. So many guys and gals on this forum alone have given up waiting, and rightly so.

I am sure AMD is well aware of the opportunity costs of delaying the introduction of Vega. The thing about is AMD needed a An Introductory High Graphic for the professional market as they are also launching Epyc this month. And if AMD is ever going to dig themselves out of the hole its going to have to do it with Professional Workstations and Servers. and this is THE point that is lost on Gamers. The entire PC Industry amounts to 10% of the market for all computers. That is split evenly between Low End 'Tooling around the Net, let me read my email class' machines and High End Gaming Machines. Most of the GPU Cards sold are the Polaris Series cards. The portion of the market from Polaris on down represents 80% of all Gaming PC Sales. That leaves 20% for Jensen Huang and NVIDIA. That is 1% of the total computer market. No doubt it is a very lucrative portion of the market. But it is a double edge sword. Without presence any base in the Entry Level and Mid Range NVIDIA relies and picking up defectors from AMD. And despite appearance only a select handful of Gamers participate in chat rooms. NVIDIA's principle source of revenue comes from reselling to its existing customer base. Jensen knows that if AMD ever mounted a concerted assault on the top end of the GPU Market NVIDIA would be in a world of hurt. But AMD's attention is focused on Servers and Workstations that is where the real money is.

Yes there are the handful of fanatics that pursue the ultimate performance no matter where it is and a few of them will jump ship. But to characterize it as hoards of RX480 users on hands and knees begging for a high end GPU from AMD like a nomad in the desert begging for water is not realistic

It's not like the competition (Nvidia) is waning. They're killing it, and if you can find a good price on your favourite card I say go for it. I've stopped suggesting people should wait.

They are sitting tight in the GPU Market while at the same time looking for other avenues to pursue.

So while Vega may not be ready and it shouldn't have been made available, at least in its current "Gaming Mode" form, it has to come out or else people will stop caring and move on. As Alien said, catch 22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

This is where AMD should have stood its ground and said the card is not ready. It also should have restricted the release of Vega FE far more rigorously than it did.

AMD said Fury series would be priced competitively. That means nothing. It could be $30 less than a 1080 but still not as fast and uses 100w more.

Nobody stated that. The community did.

Rubbish. There was a preview of the FE with an AMD rep standing there and the guy said just that.

Ed apols for DP.

Watch them deliberately and knowingly cover up the gaming performance yet again.

"No framerates displayed and ummm just to see if I could tell the difference between this and the Titan XP"

*cuts out a load of pump* "And I don't think you could tell. The regular person could not tell".

Gooood ! Then you will be patient and wait 3 Weeks for RX Vega to be launched a SIggraph before passing judgement about it..

I'll do what I like but thanks.

BTW at this point it doesn't matter how much Vega costs any way. The cards will all be bought up by miners and you won't be able to buy them even if you wanted to. I read a mag yesterday and they had contacted AMD and they said that some vendors were 150+ pre orders in with no cards to supply. And that was just one vendor. (RX 580)

Vega is GCN, and has a mountain of shaders. This will have the miners salivating. So right now it doesn't matter how well the desktop card reviews, you won't get one any way. This also means that prices will be inflated by the vendors to try and keep them in stock, but inevitably gamers won't get a look in any way. So every one does well apart from the gamers.

Vega FE currently does 30-33 MH/s, which is pretty low compared to the power used.

I doubt it will go away as easily ad 580/1070, given the higher cost and consumption
