Me too. I was expecting multiple Polaris cores squeezed onto one die and it sounds like we are just getting a shrink of Vega, which smelled suspiciously like a shrink of bloody Fury.

*sigh*.

Oh well. Being optimistic whilst this could suck it may work out well in other ways. Firstly I highly doubt Nvidia will march on regardless, which may slow progress down. This sucks right? well actually no. It just means devs will need to work harder to make games run on what they have. Which would work well, given the formula has always been great on consoles. Take a console, look at the first games that came out for it then compare to those released toward the end.

that rumor is saying amd will simply shrink vega to 7nm and add a couple new features, which doens't sound right as all we know from amd themselves is that it will be "Scalable" which doesn't support that narrative, i can see two things one is that navi is a mcm, the other is that navi can have more than 4 shader engines, both scenarios would result in huge gaming perf gains, this rumor seems to be fake

@AlienALX: Nvidia will continue to launch their products; they're more in competition with themselves than with AMD. They make slow it down a bit but at some point they need to launch something new I suppose.

One rumour I've read is, Navi could still offer a high-end part, but only in 2020 when the main Navi core—which will be aimed at the midrange in 2019—can be stacked properly. I never understood stacking multiple Polaris cores. Making an affordable Navi core that's on par with a GTX 1080, stacking 'em on top of each other, with theoretically 1080Ti-beating performance, that made a lot more sense to me.

Another rumour I've read is that the 'scaleability' moniker we saw last year will now be used with the 'Next Gen' design (rather than Navi) that's rumoured for 2020. Navi will be what Polaris was/is to Fiji and Vega. 'Next Gen' will be the replacement to the dog poop that is Vega by actually being efficient and competitively priced; it will use the stacking technique from Zen while Navi will just be a midrange gaming chip to compete with Nvidia's next GTX 1050/1060 models.

All of this rumour stuff is rubbish honestly. No sources just opinions it seems more like it to me.
