My only question, Is it only 4Gb vram? Or because it's HBM it's pretty much equivalent to 8gb?

In all fairness I'm probably not going to get one purely because I own a swift and obviously g-sync won't work.

Hard to know, would need independent testing to see how HBM handles cappaciy

Thats precisely the question on everyone's minds

I dont think 4gb HBM vram is going to behave like 8gb GDDR5 - BUT, because the bandwidth is very high, even if textures have to be loaded while in game, it can do it so fast you wont notice the pop in artifacts as much as you would on gddr5.

Its all speculation anyway which can only be answered by how smoothly it can play shadow of Mordor at 4k resoultion with the highest quality textures.

HBM is 9 times faster than GDDR5 simply less data has to be stored for the gpu to crunch as the ram can now pass data to the gpu core much faster meaming you whont need as much ram

Depends on what sort of data is being stored/processed. But that fact is has such a wide bus definitely helps things go along smoothly (more data sent in one cycle).

If this translates across the board of games then two of those cards will certainly be flying into my new system. If not then two 980ti's will take their place... whenever the UK gets any stock :eek:

Hmm.. HBM will only help VRAM -> GPU cache, not RAM -> VRAM. The RAM-PCIE-GPU transfer is still a potential bottleneck as far as I'm aware.

This will help with things such as texture heavy GPU techniques where lots of texture fetching is happening.
 
A solid 50fps at 4K is very impressive for about £450. Still can't afford it right now :)
I need a new panel before I upgrade my GPU to anything silly like this.

So your saying HBM won't effect the total amount consumed by games? It will only effect how fast they are done and the textures in the cache will be done faster too? Or did I get that wrong? Little confusing.. then again I merely woke up 30mins ago:p

Regarding the second part, so with things like AA and Tessellation, is where it will help most?

When a shader samples a texture it must fetch it from VRAM to cache. If your shader samples from many textures then it will destroy the texture cache and result in many fetches. HBM should reduce the texture fetch latency and so should help with those types of shaders.
 
Bummer is I would still need two. And that's a thousand pounds and I just can't make sense of that in any shape or form.

When I can get a pair for £500-£600 I will bite. Hopefully the X2 card will drop like the 7990 and 295x2 did and I will pick up one of those :)
 
That's awesome if true, but I'll sit back and wait until independant benchmarks come out.

my thoughts exactly,
on the other hand tho, i aint the target audience for this card, but if it works it will eventually trickle down to mid range cards,

im too busy spending money on my motorbike to buy things like this, ill stick to my 770 for this year
