Well I got the details today :D

2.8Ghz (Windsor Dual Core)

2Mb L2 Cache (1mb per core)

256kb L1 Cache (128kb per core)

Max Bandwidth - 19.2Gb/s

Bus Speed - 2000mhz

TDP - 125w

90nm

After looking at that it's in all intense purposes an overclocked FX60.

I have the document this came from on my server atm, I'll be publishing it on the teamUK site soon enough.

Well it at least confirms what we already knew - that the AM2 CPUs are just speed bumped Toledos.

I would like to think that the manchester core (the 512k per core chache version) update with a DDR2 controller 'could' well be the performance king here - the core lends itself to higher overclocking and because of the DDR2 will be able to run 1:1 with the CPU leading to an overall increase in synchronised bandwidth at a relatively low latency.

OCZ suggests lowest latencies for the AMD DDR2 controller is 3-3-3-8 and are introducing some DDR2 Performance ram specially tuned to proivide those timings at around DDR700 (350Mhz FSB).

We are all looking at FX CPU's without considering what the others (in particular manchester cores) will be capable of by allowing the higher FSB units to create a mahoosive bandwidth advantage (FX62 owners might drop their multiplier so that they can do the same, only at higher clocks)

Cheers

it is very hard to no which way to turn right now intel or amd

all i do no is that i will have to buy some ddr2 ram:D

Tis true mate, I feel the same.

I am compelled to sit this out until AMD have 65nm parts to compete, although by that time we may be seeing quad core Intels, the kicker being that they will probably be on a new socket.

Having thought about this a bit more though - I am really looking forward to seeing the updated manchester cores perform at high FSB with DDR2 RAM running 1:1 at 3-3-3-8.

Cheers

i am most likley just going to watch for a bit i want to make better hard ware choices in the next 12 months for sure

for know i want to try and understand extream cooling better im going to do some more work with ln2 but this time in a gpu tube, cascade cooling

also interested in large single stage cooling i have some idears i would like to look into

so i should have my hands full for a bit any ho

Baz I thought you had gone LGA and ATI?

The AM2 boards just look like another step in the wrong direction for AMD in my opinion. They should keep 939 going until such a time as they are fully ready with the 65nm cores. That way it makes a good release as apposed to a very sort of...why did they do that? sort of release.

I can understand the DDR2 aspect of it, but why not just let Intel lead for a bit intstead of pushing out a new board, chipset, and procs which are basically exactly the same as the current ones just with DDR2. I can't really get through my head why AMD are doing this.

@ Baz - I know for a fact that myself and Thicky would be VERY interested in some LN2 action, aswell as we still have this 670 for a little while longer and I have a 930 Presler on the way, so if we can arrange something in the next month or so for some LN2 action again, I'd most definately be up for it.

Now we have a new teamUK site, which only mav and thicky know the URL to atm (don't release yet guys) it would make an excellent first bit of news when it goes fully live. Cascade may also be a possibility but I'm still waiting for the R23.

Baz I also have another thing to put forward to you which you MAY be very interested in but I need to check pricing more first.

Cheers

Ive decided that i shall wait out untill at least the end of the year,

Mainly as ill be off to Afgan for around 6mths, bloody Job. Anyway Intel is obviously looking good but if its going to be this much of a winnner i hope it will be matched soon and as Boardy said i cant see the Point of AMD pushing out its new Skt if its underachieving apart from money of course.LOL

this is just going to send many to Intel, i may have a dabber with Intel as its looking sweet.

anyway good luck with the TeamUK site, glad i was mentioned this forum. Good group of lads, & UK of course.

Now all we need to see is these things in the shops along with the numbers they are pushing.

I personally think that this is a good time to wait, upgrade your GPU if you want to, and then wait until either AMD's 65nm can up their performance, or Intel gets enough capacity to bring Conroe prices down.

Wouldn't it be great if you could get the SLI driver for the Intel chipset ;)

I just saw that someone has scored 177k with a merom cpu at 3.3ghz and thats mighty impressive.
