Only a small block of aluminum to cool a 32 core monster? Doesn't sound like it's gonna work

You need to remember that this is for servers, where the fans are insanely loud and often in a different room with a lot of sound dampening material between you and it.

The clock speeds of the 32-core variant are likely to be very low aswell, though we will likely hear more about that soon.

That's true, but aluminum can only transfer so much heat at one time, no matter how much air you out over it

It's a server chip so the clocks on it will likely be very low, given the core/thread count.

Most Xeons live under coolers as small as those :)

I guess this just means Zen is pretty efficient. Which is a good thing

Server CPUs always are dude. They are binned for their TDP etc. I have a 8 core 16 thread Xeon that consumes 60w absolute total max. That is why I have switched to using it as my daily beater :)

That means low heat. On a 120mm AIO I managed to hit 42c haha. Water cooled under a 240 rad I am hitting about 34.

That is part of the reason why they cost so much, as quite a few end up in the bin if they are not up to scratch (see silicon manufacturing and cracks bad areas etc).

I'm a server-guy

all that matters is performance-per-watt, initial costs matter yes but only so much. We could do with knowing how much memory per socket these can use too, if it's too low they're dead before they start.
