If anything, I'm surprised Microsoft haven't considered HBM especially since AMD are looking at implementing it onto their Zen APUs. Something for Sony instead perhaps?

Fair points, I know AMD hasn't done an APU with HBM before, I just thought about it because I remember reading about AMD working on an APU with HBM thinking that considering performance, heat, form factor and such, consoles would be a good implementation of it.
Could be, Although GDDR5 memory has been able to reach 384GB/s for quite some time now using an overclock and not overclocked sits at a base of 336GB/s on the 980 Ti and that is just bog standard GDDR5.

Yeah it could be either one. But if they wanted to secure the edge of the PS4 Neo or whatever I think 5x would be a good highlighting point. Sony has been ahead in the memory department since the PS3 so it would be a big win for MS in a marketing standpoint.. Because X makes everything better lol
