AMD Vs Intel

age old question, which one do you have, ....im curious what the ratio amongst enthusiasts is...

i remember, and indeed am from a time when AMD ruled the roost, socket 462, and 754, and 939, until core2duo came along and thwarted amd, but i stuck by them

ive made it a multiple choise poll, so if you have an amd pc, and an intel laptop, you would pick both ...like me for example

amd main pc, intel dell laptop, intel macbook pro, and intel iMac

intel pc and laptop here, amd pc in the living room for the old dear only cause it was cheap and her pc packed in but she will be gettin an intel upgrade in the near future

My main rig is Intel, the wife's gaming rig is Intel, and the kids gaming rig is Intel. we all have AMD cards though 4870's and 5870's.

AMD just as in for what i have used my pc for it they have been perfect i have found no reason to move to intel unless SB smashes and i mean smashes bulldozer

All Intel right now. I can't wait for the day that AMD has the top end again. I'm an AMD fanboy but always choose what's best at the time for what I do. This is why I'm on Intel/nVidia right now.

Other (Via, mac on IBM, etc etc)

mac's are intel (also AMD/ATI GPU's), IBM's are intel and AMD

I've also not voted as both intel and amd are pretty good and comparable (also have both). Just seem to swap places depending on architecture and what they are being used for.

Also are you talking about cpu's or also including gpu's ?

or as you put 'via' are you also including motherboard chipsets?

Intel hold 90% of the OSX and Windows machines I use.

However, I use the G5 with dual ppc the most.

You can pick both amd and intel in the poll. Via makes CPUs too. By saying mac on IBM, he was referring to PowerPC chips. IBM/Motorola manufactured those for Apple before they switched to using Intel chips.

hmmblah got it in 1, i mean like VIA make processors, IBM made processors, and im sure there are some other companies that make their own processors...

it seems intel currently have a big chunk of the market share...

when/if i upgrade (september time) i will be going AMD again...

my 939 has been brilliant, stable, didnt run too hot, and perfect for what i need

both times ive had an intel, fail, first time a core2duo E6600, it crashed, and crashed, and crashed, and overheated, even with good cooling

my E6300 burnt itself out, i actually managed to kill the chip...a rare thing to do ...but ...

wheras my amd have been rock solid every single time...

What's interesting are the results on the Steam Survey. Besides the fact 100% of people use Steam, 27.63% of Steam Users have AMD CPUs.

and they only seem to catch on in the desktop market when they outperform the competition...

I was a hardcore AMD fan for a long time but Intel whooed me with their Core 2 and Core i7. When I was shopping for a proc to replace my AMD Athlon X2 4800 Toledo back in '09, it was AMD Phenom II 965BE vs Intel Core i7 920. The i7 was an overhauled C2Q with QPI (Hypertransport), an integrated memory controller, and Hyperthreading. The Phenom II was a proc that just caught up to the Core 2 procs after its blunder with the original Phenom. Gee, that was a hard decision. NOT!!! Intel Core i7 FTW.

AMD do have some inroads, not so much in CPUs since I only know of one laptop that has an AMD CPU in it. But the best laptop GPUs are AMD, if you're going to buy a gaming laptop, get one with an AMD GPU, they are a lot faster than the Nvidia counterparts.

in my opinion amd should never have bought ATi, diversity isnt a bad thing, if they wanted to make GPU's, they should have made their own

Intel especially for netbooks me thinks. Atom Processor, owns AMD has to be said. But I'm just to big a fan of those good ol' AMDs to say that Intel wins outright. For the Priceower ratio, has to be the AMD I'm afraid.
