AMD Vega GPU architectural analysis

Who cares? What the heck is that related to? Surely not a GPU

If you are referring to the album name, well there is hardly any in the video. Operating profit that guy is using as a "basis" for a claim is NOT how you compare finance's. You need way way more than just that.

So you say. But without any details. I'm not just going to take your word for it just because you say "that's not the whole picture". Maybe it's not, but that dude provided what I saw to be believable evidence (the name of the rapper was tongue-in-cheek, by the way). If you have more believable evidence, either say you can't be bothered to provide it (which would be reasonable) or explain yourself. Don't just entirely discount someone by saying "that's not the whole picture" and then offer no further explanation. I want to know more.

There must be some truth to what he is saying because at the end of the day how did Nvidia survive with nothing to sell for months? I refer to the 200 series going EOL to Fermi. It was months and months with no Nvidia GPUs in sight.

He has all of the publicly available information on AMD so unless you know some one on the inside and or they have been cheating their tax bills then I am all ears, NBD.

Really dude? The whole damn PDF is the evidence, that guy just doesn't scroll down. Yes he is right AMD are making way less, true, but when comparing the two companies, it's impossible. They don't specify anything beyond the whole market they report for. So yeah I am discounting what you and him are saying. You can say I'm not providing more evidence or explanation, but it's business 101. You'll learn that in a introduction course. It's just how you do it. If you want to know more, look further than that guy did. Otherwise he's nitpicking a very very useless figure that has no context or Apple to Apple comparison to Nvidia. He's doing it the wrong way is all I'm saying. So while his assumption is AMD is making way less(he's right), he's research is wrong. That's all I'm saying.

You also have to take into account R&D, Nvidia has one market to do it in, GPUs. AMD have 2, GPUs and CPUs. Comparing them isnt just apples to apples. They are the ONLY company in the world to do both. It puts them in a unique and at the same time crappy position.

Alien: That doesn't mean anything, they still make money other ways like in there professional environment

Fair enough. I did factor in AMD's R&D costs that is branched into CPU's and APU's unlike Nvidia, but the point of AMD earning substantially less despite making superior or equal products still stands, and that is the key point.

This will not release in Q1
Been thinking on it this past day and on reflection if they were ready for a Q1 release it would have been CES. I think they may have intended Q1 but given the AMD live never happened and that the only GPUs at CES are engineering samples kinda indicates they are not quite done which is a shame as Q2 is to late IMHO

Actually, you would be amazed at how fast they can make a switch between engineering validation to production models.

It's most likely you will see a paper launch, with very limited stock. No substantial availability till late Q2.

Yes it does I'm not disagreeing with that. Just saying his research is wrong and is misleading a lot of people

I do appreciate you saying that. It's hard to distinguish sometimes when people are just disagreeing because of some pseudo intellectualism or fanboyism or disagreeing because there is evidence.

It would be silly to disagree with evidence.. ^_^
And despite what everyone probably thinks, I'm not a fanboy. Just someone who dislikes a certain companies way of doing business. And in this market that leaves me with just one company left:p

No, I never thought you were a fanboy. I meant in general. I'd hazard a guess I'm in the same boat as you. I don't like Nvidia's position. One of the main reasons why I bought a Fury when the 980ti was the far superior card was because I wanted AMD to succeed. So many people across the interwebz say things like, 'I hope AMD release a great CPU or GPU so there is more competition again', but then buy an Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU despite AMD being competitive. For arguments sake, if 80% of the people who say 'I hope AMD are competitive' then buy their competitors, AMD will eventually stop being competitive as 20% just isn't enough.

I want AMD to be competetive but when.I spend my hard hard earned cash then Ido want the BEST that MY money can buy. I have a fury x in one rig but u got that second hand, as it was at the time and for a long time it was inferior to the 980 ti.

People can spend their money wherever they like, of course, and if for them it's a *insert brand here* then that's fine. The problem lies in when people impassively ignore a perfectly valid solution and are inadvertently causing the demise of what they wished would not fall apart. Basically, they're shooting themselves in the foot without realising it.

Personally I feel AMD currently offers a better bang for pound, sure they are not the fastest but at least they dont abuse their customers to the extent Intel and nVidia do
