AMD to release a Ryzen refresh before Zen 2?

That would be 5.0, being released just recently?

Edit: Or you mean that they're skipping 4.0 and going straight to 5.0, making it take at least an extra year?

No. 4.0
4.0 releases next year. 5.0 hasn't released at all and the recent articles about it were kinda misleading. Work just started on it, releases 2019 but I'll call BS and it comes out in 2020 earliest

It may be AMD is going to wait on 5.0 to go to a new socket. I know 2020 is the timeline they were talking about. Until then, they all should work in the current boards.

It's all backwards compatible, well 4.0 is and based off there history and what they try to achieve, 5.0 should be compatible as well. However if the CPU uses 4.0 and 5.0 comes out, you can still use it, but you are bandwidth limited. Not a big issue, I think latency deserves more of a focus rather than raw bandwidth.
